It is with great joy that I Mistress Elizabeth Elenore Lovell announce the following:
Yesterday, at East Kingdom 12th Night I took Tola Knityr as my Apprentice. Our contract states the following:
"I, Tola Knityr, in good faith and without guile, place myself with you, Elizabeth Eleanor Lovell, Companion of the Order of the Laurel, for the purpose of learning the trades or crafts of fiber arts and other skills, promising by this agreement to take care to do the work that you set before me, and that I will be faithful and trustworthy in all that I do, and that I will neither steal nor take anything away from you, nor flee nor depart from you for any reason, until I have completed my apprenticeship. And I promise you by this agreement that I will reimburse you for all damages or losses that you incur or sustain on my behalf, pledging all my goods, etc.; renouncing the benefit of all laws, etc. And I, the said Elizabeth Eleanor Lovell, promise you, Tola Knityr, that I will teach you faithfully and will provide guidance and protection for you. "
Please know that though she is my Apprentice I encourage her to study with and learn from all. Should anyone have anything to say about Tola I encourage them to speak with me at any event or via email. - wit' Theresa Barcelona

Roman in the Gloamin'
Four thousand Roman soldiers, the distinguished Ninth Legion, marched into the north to subdue the rebellious Picts. None ever returned. Hadrian’s Wall, was then built by soldiers of the Second, Sixth and Twentieth Legions to keep Romans separate from the barbarians.
As night steals softly over the ground, it’s difficult for the Roman sentries to see clearly in the gloaming. Night sounds from north of the wall drift though the air. Are those muffled hoofbeats or the soft tread of approaching Picts?
The stage has been set for the War at Hadrian's Wall.
Highlands War will once again occur in the dry camp ground at Mormon Lake Lodge. The site opens at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 31 and closes at 12:00 noon on Monday June 4, 2012. (30 miles south of Flagstaff, AZ). Please join us for a unique respite from the heat of the deserts and stress of the cities and enjoy the cool of the meadows, forests, and mountains of Northern Arizona!
IT WAS medieval madness at Cabarlah yesterday when members of Toowoomba's Society for Creative Anachronism dressed the part for an open day.
The group of history buffs recreated the renaissance period with sewing and cooking from the era, arts and crafts from that time as well as archery and fencing displays.
All members also dressed in handmade clothes.
Founder of the society Ralph Picton said he had always had a love of the time period and now regularly practised fencing.
It was the first time the group had held an open day and Mr Picton said more members would be warmly welcomed.
"We regularly get together on a Tuesday evening at the Harlaxton neighbourhood centre" he said.
"Anyone can come along if they're interested in history and want to learn how they did things back then."
The group also practise fencing on Thursday evenings.
For more information about the society and their meetings call Mr Picton on 0411 157 430.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.
Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.
Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
