A Rough Patch...

2014 was a harder year for me then most. I took care of my best friend who had stage four cancer until she passed this summer. She gave me all of her belongings to sell so that I could pay off my house. She lived in my house with me and was a hoarder so it took me all of 6 months and 7 dumpsters full of trash to sort through everything. My house is still full of her "stuff".

Just as I was going to give up hope and just let the fates take me where they will, I…

Lucy kitty

Had to have my Lucy put to sleep recently. She was with us for nearly 10 years and we tried the whole time to keep her healthy. She was allergic to flea bites and would end up with secondary infections, hair loss and just plain miserable. Every summer she would get out of the house and be so happy, but by the end of the summer when I was able to catch her, she was a mess.…

The most dangerous people in history.

You have all seen them. You have read about them through history back. They walk beside you and past you and away from you. We see them everyday and have even become accustomed to their very presence in our day to day living. They will be there tomorrow. The ones I speak of look like everybody else. You can't see them because of the clothes they wear or the smell they have or the sounds they make. You can feel them though. They raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Make your heart beat…

Retreat,

Property acquisitions, benefits. Sometimes they are from what must be given up. Yes gain thru expelling old outmoded behaviors.  We look closely at what we see as a birthright or your attachment to your nature. Like a smoker we sometimes suffer withdrawal from shedding our old skins. But like a swords radical severance we have to cut our way free of it to be rid of it. If you are smoking you can stop reading this now. Fund a will in the matter stop being unaware and ask what feels right.…

Please Pray for My Best Friend Sandy...

Here is what we know so far...Sandy has been going through chemo and just finished about two weeks ago. While I was taking her to an appointment for Social Security she lost her balance and fell. She was holding onto my arm for support and fell on her butt. She did not hit her head. I took her to her cancer doctor and he scheduled an appointment for an MRI (brain scan) this coming Monday because she was having problems conjuring sentences, she had slurred…

Circumstances Dictate...

It seems I was not cut out for being a merchant. I pushed it as far as I could for the love of my art and the people I meet and call friends. My best friend, who is also my roommate and business partner, has been dealing with cancer and is now going through chemo. My dog needs to go to a vet and get what looks like a small punching bag cut off of her chest. I am always behind on bills and house payments. I can't keep supplies or propane in stock to make new projects…

Strength

Strength, Well all have it. Perhaps in various ways and proportions some are differently strengthened. But its not a lack of strength that makes us the dominant life form on earth. Sometimes the strength we need is the ability to do a task for the sake of the task. There are those who would see us as controllable entity's by our fears and seek to stop us from evolving into the entities we must be. Thrive thru intelligence. Sift and know those who Faust damned freely in his works. Are alive in…

As of late

As of late I have not been here, have been thinking about the old ways and what things I have seen. Many that I know mouth the words but do not own the actions. My mind has been wandering down past roads and to past converses. Time will tell where things go.

Tarot parlour game?

A while ago I ran across a reference to a kind of parlor game which used Tarot cards and was described in an Italian work of fiction dating from 1527. It involved passing out 5, or 6 of the trumps to each of four players. The challenge was then to compose a sonnet for each person into which was woven the names of the trumps dealt to that person. Being from a work of fiction with no other references, scholars have suggested this may have been a just literary invention, rather than an…

Tips for new kilt wearers.

Something I wrote a while ago

New to wearing a kilt? -Start watching women in short skirts (-well more than you already do...) to study how they move while sitting down to avoid exposing themselves. You can learn some tips by following their example. That sweep of the hands underneath your rear as you sit can not only prevent embarassment, but protect you from surprises like cold/hot surfaces -not to mention splinters.

Planning on wearing a belted plaid, sometimes called a…

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
