A plaque created for Romantic Times® Cover Model Troy Sutter

Mr. Sutter was very popular with the fans and writers in attendance at the Fall 1999 Romantic Times convention in Tronto, Canada. So much so, that a collection of the writers got together and comissioned this plaque for Mr. Sutter.
(the plaque is shown in two views above, in different lighting to better show detail).

The body of the plaque is green marble, with a wreath of steel vines finished with a brass brushed finish to compliment the brass inscription plate.
Several simple objects

A very organic, twisted steel plant stand. It is shown here in two views.

A forged steel leaf pendant.

This unusual iron object was simply a couple of sections of rod that were used in a demonstration to show various methods of working steel. It is now basicly a paperweight, unless someone comes up with a better use.

Several thing are built in the IronAngel woodshop, in the rear of the Forge building. Clicking on the links below will take you to the area corrosponding.
Crossbows - Chests and Boxes - Furniture
Furniture area of the page.
The wood shop is still overrun with building crossbows and finish work for the living space.
Thus, production furniture will have to wait until at least winter of 2000, and more probably spring 2001.
Or until we have an order in the production schedual.
However, we already have the first production project planned;
to copy the the orginal deacon's chair pictured below.
It is of a private collection, and NOT for sale. Reproductions might be avaiable in the spring of 2001.

This chair still retains the orginal velvet seat cover,
now underneath the gold brocade cover visable in the photo.
The chair is of Oak, and stands about 64" in height overall.

Chests and Boxes

We here at IronAngel Forge find a great intrest in the heavy boxes, chests and coffers of the Middle Ages of Europe. They present a romantic image of strength and security in an age when these things seem to become more fleeting by the day. And besides, what a wonderful place to store modern and ancient treasures while being a focal centerpiece in ones home.

J. Griswold, Owner of IronAngel Forge

Studied Crossbow construction under David Watson of Austin, TX (also known as Master Iolo), 1995

Purchaced the building IAF is now in on 27 Nov 1999.
Building is currently being rewired, and reorganized.
Minor rennovations on the living space will take place over the winter to enhance the old world feel.

Cause of the great Smithsonian Marmasette Fiasco.
History
In 1982 Mr. Griswold began studying the art of blacksmithing, and in 1984 began studying under Harold Nelson, the then owner of the building which now houses IronAngel Forge.
The name IronAngel was adopted in March of 1999 to reflect the changes in the way the company operated. Formerly, when the only artist was Mr. Griswold, the company was known as North Wind Forge, though the name has not been used since 1991 due to a conflict with another smith who had taken the name first in the American North West. From 1991 to 1999 Mr. Griswold simply operated as "J.P.W. Griswold - Artist / Blacksmith".
IronAngel is named for the image that evolved to be the personal symbol of the owner: That of a Winged Hammer. It does look very much like a body form with a pair of large wings. In some earlier versions, the winged hammer symbol was created with a MIG welder on a steel plate as seen below.

The hammer image is often mistaken for an abstract angelic form. Thusly the name suggested it's self. But only with the obtainment of the new shop did we take the name and use it.

A massive, Iron Angel is being designed for the front of the shop balcony to act as a figure head and "mascot" for the company. She will hold aloft in her steely grasp a winged hammer similar to the one used in the logo thoughout the site.

Also under design are new railings for the balcony, a trio of gargoyles and the additions of metal morning glorys to the spiral stair railing. Unfortunately, as with the shoemaker's childern, these things are slow to fruition as customers projects come first.

IronAngel Forge is a Blacksmith Shop / Production Facility located in the oldest continually operating Blacksmith Shop in the State of Michigan, USA (at least that we are aware of). Within IronAngel's walls we have facilites to work metals, wood, some glass, leather and many other materials. Please feel free to use the links to the left to see some of what we have produced to date. Most of the items we have created are in the Galleries, and the most recent in "What's New?".

Iron Angel Forge is a collection of Artists led by Blacksmith J. P. W. Griswold. The roster of the artists involved with the company changes a bit from time to time, but the consistancy of product remains very high. Mr. Griswold oversees all projects undertaken, and is the main artist on most of them.
Christmas 2001 items!
We have the perfect stocking stuffer for those not so nice kids; Coal! Modern childern may not believe the threat our parents used ("If your a bad kid this year, all you are going to get is a lump of coal in your stocking!"). Now it can be a reality!
We are offering small bags of coal, with "coal" stenciled on the bag, so there can be no mistake! Sorry, at this point there is no picture yet. Each bag is about a 1/4 to 1/2 pound of genuine coal lumps. Cost is $5.00 a bag, or 5 for $20.00, and includes standard shipping in the US. Shipping outside the US may cost a bit more.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
