Bay Laurel

Bay has many uses in magick.  Some of its properties include:

Divination & Psychic ability
Clairvoyance
Wisdom
Dreamwork
Consecration
Protection
Wishes

Bay wards of negative influences and has potent healing properties. Bay, combined with sandalwood makes a powerful curse breaker.

To break a curse or negative spell that has been cast against you or someone you know:

Mix together:
1 tsp water
1/2 tsp sandalwood
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Write on one whole bay leaf the name of the person you are protecting from the negative spell.
Rub the bay leaf in the water/herb mixture until the entire leaf is coated.  Allow the leaf to dry.
Hold the bay leaf over an open candle flame until it begins to burn on its own.  Hold on to the leaf until it has burned down the where you can longer hold on to it and let it fall into a cauldron or other fire safe bowl.  If the flame goes out before the leaf is all the way burned, you will need to repeat the
process over again.

Psychic dreaming potion

1 bay leaf
1 tsp catmint
1/2 tsp lavender flowers
pinch valerian

Steep herbs in 6 oz of steaming hot water.  While they are steeping, breath in the scents of the steam. Strain herbs and sweeten with honey.  Sip before bed.  You will not need to drink it all to create the effect, so leave the cup on your nightstand so that the aroma will remain near you while you sleep.  Do NOT use if pregnant.

Another use for bay leaves..... keep bugs (especially cock roaches) away. Place the leaves in the corners of cabinets and behind refridgerator or in pantry or closets. It's great because it is safe to have around food...but of course you have to keep it from infants and animals. Please correct me if I am wrong...but I was always told you could not eat the leaves or they would make you sick (even though you can use the leaves to flavor things when cooking...you don't eat the leaf???). This is not exactly a magical use....but then again maybe if you have a problem with bugs (particularly cock roaches) and it makes them go away, you might consider it magic!!!   by Shay

You are right about keeping the bugs away. We have used this for a long time in keeping piss ants out of the cabinets and away from the sink, for some reason they seem to like places with water.

The reason that you don't eat the bay leaf or the berries is that they are a narcotic and a stimulant and too much of the leaf can cause you to vomit severely and can stimulate you to the point of heart attack. And yes eating one leaf can be too much. The berries in concentration have been used in the past to cause abortion, as little as 5 or 6 berries can cause this reaction.

The reason that we don't get this effect when the herb is infused (in food or tea) is that most of the time we don't leave the leaves in the liquid long enough to get most of the nasty qualities of the herb into the solution. In order to do this it would almost have to be a tincture, but eating a fresh or dried leaf will cause the full impact of the herb to be felt.

The dreaming potion sounds wonderful by the way and thank you.   by Michelle Turner

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
