The lunar phase is important in determining the best time for magic. There are basically two lunar phases: waxing moon (ideal time for positive magic) and waning moon (ideal time for banishing/negative magic, study, and meditation). In between you'll have the dark moon (the time of greatest power for banishing and negative magic) and the full moon (the time of greatest power for positive magic). Most witches and pagans work around these lunar phases. However, others, suggest a much more complicated subdivision of the moon phases.

Blue Moon
Your geographic location can make a difference to your experience of a Blue Moon. Depending on your longitude you may go through a date change prior to other locations which means the full moon is at the first of your new month and falls at the end of the preceding month somewhere else. The "blue" one is always the 2nd full moon in the same month. The regular full moons of each month all have their own individual names as follows: Moon after Yule, Wolf Moon, Lenten Moon, Egg Moon, Milk Moon, Flower Moon, Hay Moon, Grain Moon, Fruit Moon, Harvest Moon, Hunters' Moon and Moon Before Yule.
Historically the Blue Moon was considered unlucky and a real nuisance when it occurred at various times of the year and upset scheduling of church festivals. In love songs the Blue Moon is often a symbol of sadness and loneliness.
The first appearance in print of this expression goes back to the time of Shakespeare, when some folks felt that sometimes the moon visually appeared blue in the sky. Although the expression dates all that way back, it has only recently come to mean the second Full Moon in one month. Blue Moon seems to be a truly modern piece of folklore, old folklore it is not, but real folklore it is.

New moon, Dark moon.
Dark moon occurs either side of the new moon. The new moon is between the last of the waning moon and the beginning of the waxing moon. The new moon has the power of in-between, a time which is not a time, similar to midday, midnight etc. If doing a Dark Moon rite, the active part of the ritual should be a good 45 minutes out from the actual new moon as the energies can be erratic. Also the waning moon allows you to calm down and tune out.

Phases of the Moon
The Moon's phase changes throughout the month and following its orbital path:
1) Two days after the new Moon, a thin crescent appears in the evening sky. This is the waxing (gaining, growing) Moon (see attached file)
2) A week after new Moon, half the disk is visable. The moon is still waxing (growing) and has completed a quarter of its orbit- We call this the First Quarter Moon.
3) During the time from the first quarter to the Full moon we refer to this phase as: Waxing Gibbous (gibbous means lump-shaped)
4) A week after first quarter the Moon is Full, as the whole bright Earth-facing hemisphere is lit by the sun.
5) After the Full Moon, (Which is today) The Moon enters its Waning (shrinking) period, This week following the Full Moon is refered to as the Waning Gibbous.
6) One week after the Full Moon is the Last Quarter Moon and during this fourth week of cycle she returns to her crescent shape until she reaches the end of one complete cycle and starts a new one.
NOTE: The Moon's full cycle takes approximately 29.5 earth days to complete once through. Also, for those not familiar in practices of Moon Magick, the general ( I say general/my belief) rule of thumb for performing particular types of magick, is that ridding spells, ie...losing weight or getting rid of debt, spiritual cleansings and such are usually better to be done during the corresponding Moon cycle of Waning or New Moon. Similarly, increasing types of Magick and Spells, ie... gaining Money or aiding in acquiring that new job for instance, are types of spells that are generally more favored during the Waxing Moon or Full Moon.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.
Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.
Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
