Is it possible to add a hole in the top below the stone? My only thought is it may weaken the mount... I would like to add an LED below the stone. I can install the LED but it would be more likely to work better if the hole is added before the stone is mounted.
I can put an angled hole on the opposite side of the medallion for this. Allowing removal of LED when not needed. Need to know the size of the shaft I need to use for this. Or I can bore/hollow out a place for one and not permanently mount the stone. Got goo got tools now to check on other orders to go from there.
A picture is worth a 1000 words. This what I invisoned...

If you can bore an area in the top then drill down as far as possible with a hole slightly larger than the LED...

When I get the staff back:
I will then go in through the side with a dremal and hollow out and area to hold the battery and switch. I will be able to push the LED up the hole to the top of the staff. I plan on hiding the switch with a leather strap
yep can do that will need to get something to prevent the goo from fill in the hole when setting the stone what is diameter of the shaft for the LED?

Good picture that show much talent with the digital things I do not do well.
Thanks :)

The hole for the LED should be as close to 3/8" as possible. the LED is 1/4"
depth? also you indicate 'hollow' space as beneath the stone any thoughts of size or just what I can? the more materiel I remove the less stable the placement.
Yes just do what you can on the space below the stone. so you can get a firm mount. Depth about 1/4" or so

Depth on the small hole, that is hard to judge without having the staff in hand. Can you post a pic of the upper part of the staff? The staff has a bend in it about where I put my hand. (tried showing that in my pick) I would like the hole to go down to about that first bend in the staff. Or as far down as you can go... please add a line on the outside of the staff at the depth you were able achieve so I can hit it from the side.
OK then will do as I can cuff is cut and solidering to be done. The stone is a bit bigger than the staff top but I am adjusting mounting styles for it. Will see how long of a bit I have here. Hopefully will not have to go purchase one longer. The bend is slight and understand what you type of. I do not have instant internet the one here took the internet card with them over the weekend so I am walking to hot spot to type.
Band done Stone set hole drilled and marked in depth. Madallion set and done. Setting on staff with natrural cruve today. Should be fully set sured and well in 24-72 hours. Pictures will appear.
I can't wait to see it. I'll be be looking forward to Derbyshire when I can hold in my hand.
Well you will when all is done and things are there to do so. Shaft not a deep as wanted but is 6 inches below the stone. The rest of the goo to set will be applied today then the curing of it . Will soon get a picture for you here.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
