Bloody Mary!

Bloody Mary was Mary Tudor, Queen of England, and daughter of King Henry the 8th and Catherine of Aragon. All her life, she was a mean brat to her little sister, Elizabeth and her brother Edward VI. She did not like them at all and was very jealous. When Edward VI died, she became Queen Mary of England. She was hated all over for changing the religion in England from Protestant to Roman Catholic. She mass-murdered over 100 Protestant leaders, earning her name as "Bloody Mary".



To summon Bloody Mary:

1) Go into your bathroom, (generally the darkest room in the house with the door closed.

2) Turn out the lights.



3) Run the water.



4) Spin around 3 times saying "Bloody Mary." (in front of the vanity mirror)



5) Close your eyes


When you open your eyes, you will see the image of Bloody Mary in the mirror. If you look too long, she can steal your soul. You then become the legion of Bloody Mary!

I loved this legend as a child. It is said, that women would stare into the mirror and say 'Bloody Mary' to see their future husband. I f they saw death, usually in the form of a skeleton or grim reaper it meant they were going to die, before they had a chance to marry.

The Brazilians have "a loira do banheiro" which loosely translated means the blonde in the toilet. Instead of using a mirror, they flush the toilet 3 times.

There was a fairly decent movie made in 2006, called Bloody Mary. I liked the overall premise of the film, though the acting was shotty. There was a meg-shift cult dedicated to Bloody Mary.

"Bloody Mary is a real legend of a ghost of a young girl called Mary. In one of her old days she had been extremly sick.So her parents decided to barry her in their garden.They put a bell on top of the coffin so if she ever wakes up,they will know that shes okAY.But one day the bell rang, her father came digging to see her, he then found her all covered with blood, her finger nails stuck on the coffin, shes all scratched up, and her eyes and mouth were open when she was dead. One of the more common ways participants attempt to make her appear is to stand before a mirror in the dark (most commonly in a bathroom) and repeat her name three times, though there are many variatome include chanting a hundred times, chanting at midnight, spinning around, rubbing one's eyes, running the water, or chanting her name thirteen times with a lit candle. In some versions of the legend, the summoner must say, "Bueberry baby , Blueberry baby,Blueberry baby!" , "Bloody mary, I killed your baby." or her husbands nickname,"Candyman , Candyman, Candyman Candyman." Blueberry is the name of Bloody Mary's dead son named Blue. In these variants, Bloody Mary is often believed to be the spirit of a young mother whose baby was stolen from her, which made her go mad in grief and she eventually committed suicide. In stories where Mary is supposed to have been wrongly accused of killing her children, the querent might say "I believe in Mary Worth." This is similar to another game involving the summoning of the Bell Witch in a mirror at midnight. The game is often a test of courage, and bravery as it is said that if Bloody Mary is summoned, she would proceed to kill the summoner in an extremely violent way, such as ripping his or her face off, scratching his or her eyes out, cutting their head off, driving the person insane , bringing the person into the mirror with her or scratching their neck, causing serious injury or death. Some think if she doesn't kill the one who had summoned her then she will haunt them for the rest of their life. Other versions tell that if one chants her name thirteen times at midnight into a mirror she will appear and the summoner can talk to a deceased person until 12:01, when Bloody Mary and the dead person asked to speak to will vanish. Still other variations say that the querent must not look directly at Bloody Mary, but at her image in the mirror; she will then reveal the querent's future, particularly concerning marriage and children."

These legends have been the inspiration for many books and movies. Did anyone watch the Stephen King mini-series called 'Kingdom Hospital?" If you recall, the young girl who rang the bell, was named Mary. The symbolism in the series was profound.
