Staurolite - Fairy Cross

Staurolite gets its name from the Greek words stauros-lithos. Stauros-lithos translated to English means Cross Stone. If you look at the picture above you will see why it has that name. :))) It is also known as a Fairy Cross. The stone almost always has a formation of a cross upon it. The reason for the cross formation on this gemstone is from a process called crystal twinning. Crystal twinning occurs when two separate crystals share some of the same crystal lattice points in a symmetrical manner. The result is an intergrowth of two separate crystals in a variety of specific configurations.

This stone has been seen for a long time as a stone of protection and good luck. In ancient times it was given to children to ward off evil. Christians believed that this stone was the connection between Heaven and Earth. It was once believed that this stone was formed as a result of fairies who cried when they heard about Christ's crucifixion.

Staurolite can help to protect children from cramps, brain tumors, and cerebral or spastic infant paralysis. It can assist with the treatment of brain disease and issues with the central nervous system. When you have a fever or a headache you can use this stone to help alleviate it. It is also a great stone to help you to give up negative habits like smoking or drinking.

Staurolite is a very grounding stone. It can be helpful in diffusing stressful situations and lifting depression.

To cleanse Staurolite run it under warm water, then set it among clear rock crystals overnight to recharge.
