I know we have posted in here different information about working magick with the moon. But I found this site and thought I would share the information with you all. I like the little poem at the end. It really helps me to remember about the phases of the moon.
The Moon And Magic
The moon's energy is cool, silvery-bright, and feminine. It has been known since ancient times that the moon has an affect on the tides on lakes and the high seas, on plant growth, animals, and human behavior. The moon rules over the life-giving liquids of our own bodies, such as the menstrual cycle and the cardiovascular system.
As the moon affects us physiologically, the energy of the lunar cycle fluctuates our emotional responsiveness and our psychic energies. Thus, it is for this reason that the moon has a direct influence on magical and spiritual workings. This is why focused emotion energizes magic. It is, in fact, redirected energy.
Because of the cyclical nature of the month, the timing of magical workings (spells) should be cöordinated to that phase of the moon that is in harmony with the intent or purpose of the spell. This timing in spellcraft has been acknowledged for centuries, possibly going back to the magic performed in the temples of ancient Egypt. The moon itself is a sacred symbol of the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, The Great Magician.
In utilizing the most appropriate lunar phase, you effectively provide the most advantageous energy needed to execute appropriate spells. Remember, a moon rise can occur in daylight. So, never think that spellcraft is restricted to night!
Below, the phases of the Moon are discussed.
The Waxing Crescent Moon
The waxing moon is on a journey to brightness, from after the dark moon (or new moon) to the full moon.
The moon first appears as a thin crescent moon sliver and progresses in size and brightness. The crescent is on the right side of the moon.
This period is especially favorable in matters concerning growth, protection, healing, advancement, abundance, to increase knowledge, spirituality, and fertility. This is the time for spells dealing with new beginnings of every nature or to draw something to you, in personal life as well as in business and finance. It is also the best time to plant seeds and new plants.
The Full Moon
The Full Moon is when the moon is completely in the sun's light and appears in her round silvery luminance. This is when the sun, Earth, and moon line up in that order and on the same line. That is, the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the Earth, so the moon appears as a full, round, brilliant disc.
It is during the full moon is when lunar energy is at its most intense. This ffects the ocean tides, animals, plant growth, and human behavior. Magic workings are especially potent at this time. This is always the preferred time for positive spells, particularly those most difficult.
The Waning Crescent Moon
The waning moon is when the Moon declines in size from just after the Full Moon to just before complete darkness.
The moon first appears with large brightness and gradually decreases into a large crescent with continues to diminish until only a thin sliver of crescent moon is left. The crescent is on the left side of the moon.
This period is especially favorable in matters concerning banishings, separations, endings, eliminations, reversals, . This is the time for spells related to the unwanted, relationship endings, relief of stress, the riddance of disease, ailments, and bad habits. It is also the appropriate time for house purification, and cleansings.
The Dark Moon
The Dark Moon (or New Moon) is when the moon is completely dark. This is when the sun, moon, and Earth line up in that order and on the same line. That is, the moon is between the Earth and the sun, so it appears completely dark to us, as if it disappeared.
As the moon moves in conjunction with the sun, rising in the morning and crosses the sky, unseen, during daylight. This meansthere is no moon in the sky during the night. Thus, this is the darkest night of the month. In the countryside on a starless night , you cannot see your hand before your face. It is complete and absolute darkness, like being in a void of perception.
But within this perceptual isolation, is mystery and wonder. When the spirit can realize the possibility of unrealized potential. On this day the moon moves in conjunction with the sun, rising in the morning and crosses the sky, unseen, during daylight. Many Crafters use the dark moon as a rest period, for regeneration, meditation.
The Moonrise Poem
Just like the sun, the moon rises and sets every day. The time of moonrise depends on the phase of the moon. It rises about 25 to 65 minutes later each day than the previous day. Therefore, the moon is out during daytime as often as nightime.
In magic, the presence of the moon is always desirable as it serves to boost magical energy. So, the following poem not only serves to provide a rhyme to help us remember when moonrise occurs but also goes to show that magic is forever cöordinated to the moon's divine phases. Daytime is as magical as the night!
The Dark Moon always rises at sunrise,
The First Quarter at noon,
The Full Moon always rises at sunset,
And the Last Quarter at midnight.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.
Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.
Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
