“Lay down our weapons? If you want them, come and get them.”

(480 BC) King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae.

Judging by this quote, weapons are one of the most important accessories to war, no great warrior would go to battle without his sword or other kind of weaponry s/he might carry.

From the dark ages to the middle ages there were many different kinds of weapons which included the famous sword, spear and flail or club; these weapons were designed for close range battle.

There were also short bows and long bows that were weapons designed for distance and required skilled aiming. It took months, even years, of observation as well as practice to master one of these weapons.

Over the years, weapons were enhanced in order to keep up with the evolution of armor!

During the years of the spartan (about 480 BC) the common weapons that a soldier would carry would be a long spear, a short sword (secondary weapon) and their rounded shield.

In the beginning of the middle ages (the 5th century) the common weapons used in this era included a large variety of different long range weapons; which were spears, bows, crossbows and catapults. They also had a variety of different close range weapons including long swords, short swords, battle flails and daggers. Muskets may be considered among them though they weren't commonly used until the late middle ages (14th century).

These are just some of the medieval weapons used in ancient history, there are still more that were used and some that are yet to be discovered.

The medieval blade was created to cut, chop, and also stab. That would encounter very hard materials for instance other swords along with other medieval weaponry and armor generally made of steel. To have the opportunity to withstand this kind of mistreatment instead of split, the medieval blade acquired to get a wonderful degree of toughness. This became achieved simply by tempering the blade blade to an increased degree of freedom whilst minimizing the edge-holding potential slightly. The medieval sword can be a weapon in which sets all the target on offense while defense equally in its design and particularly in it’s utilize. Situation, moment and movements are likewise important to a medieval European knight or solider as they are to any kind of knight, even so the medieval sword was designed to serve in a much larger capability in terms of defense.
We all do certainly not live in a world anymore exactly where the sword will be the best of guns development. No more time do the armies of the world meet the other person on the area and also compromise away together with blade, guitar, and also mace. The inexperienced is much less well-acquainted in what real weapons are. For that reason, I sense it can be the accountability of these of people who have an passion and also adore of this stuff to support educate the common consumer.
He or she said to “take your own girl along with no matter what success you need.”
The girl inquired, “Do a person mind the decline of your sword so much?”
“I’d possess to get rid of a large amount of money before I minded just as much the decline of in which sword.”
“Then you shall never have it, because you have got handled me dishonorably.”
- From the Viking Laxdela fable (part 40)
In the not too far-away earlier, declare Four hundred years possibly even, the blade ended up being deemed to be a more civil tool when compared with the battle hammer, firearm, as well as axe. Why? Even though any tool can have a defensive potential, no some other weapon offers these kinds of a healthy ability while the blade. Various other weaponry are more exclusively centered on the attack. The sword’s ability to be utilized with the same talent for commendable safeguard makes it possible for it to have got a more emotionally “pleasing” feeling fastened to the idea. Let’s keep in mind that the most enjoyable along with considerable fights in literature as well as, in the modern age, movies, tend to be fought against with swords. Fearless men carrying glistening material swords rescue reasonable maidens from dropped beasts or perhaps nauseating tyrants, along with the fights that ensue are usually thrilling and eager, in which good triumphs more than evil.
A lot of stories along with charisma encompass the construction and rehearse of the medieval sword, alluding to its otherworldly properties and the specific talent needed to build one. Caliburn (excalibur), Durandal, Aettartangi, almost all of these types of and quite a few of the planet’s popular, famous guns are generally swords. The most important as well as ceremonial system in a knight’s collection can be his sword, and the man would very own a number of. The system applied to declare a squire’s change for better in to a knight will be the blade. Several nations around the world had and still have an unique coronation blade for declaring the king or perhaps emperor to become the one in power. Although officially “obsolete” on the industry of fight in our modern get older, numerous armed service products, for example the United states of America Boat Corps, nonetheless carry swords because part of their particular ceremonial attire.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
