The Celestial Chinese Dragon is an analogy of the History of China. It is not accident that the Chinese proclaim themselves as the descendants of the dragon (Lung Tik Chuan Ren).

The dragons are divine mythical creatures that represent abundance, prosperity and good luck. They are also an emblem of the emperor and the imperial army. The image of the dragon means greatness and kindness.

The Chinese dragon, called Lung, symbolizes power and excellence, valor and audacity, heroism and perseverance, nobility and divinity. A dragon defeats all obstacles until achieving success. It is energetic, decisive, optimistic, intelligent and ambitious.

Unlike the counter-productive energies associated to the western dragons, most of the Eastern dragons are beautiful, friendly and wise. They are known as the Angels of the East.

TEMPLES TO ADORE THEM

In the East, numerous temples have been constructed to pray the dragons, because they are considered to be the masters that control rain, rivers, lakes and the seas of the world.

Many Chinese cities still have some temples dedicated to burn incense and to worship the dragons, in order to catch their benevolence.

For example, the “Black Dragon Pool Chapel”, near Beijing, is one of the religious institutions that still adore these beings of light. Also the “Island Temple”, at Japan, has become a sacred site where many travelers meditate and worship their magnificent dragons.

It is told that Japanese emperor Hirohito tracked his ancestry and concluded that one of its ancestors had been the daughter of the Sea Dragon King.

Since then, many Asian emperors declared to have some dragon ancestor.

THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON

The Year of the Dragon takes place every twelve years. The Eastern astrologers maintain that the children that are born that year enjoy wealth and health during long time.

Also it is said that people born that year, are so wise that they evolve to be royal advisors.

The legend of a Cambodian king is very famous. It tells the story about a monarch that spent a great fortune locked up in a tower during one night consulting a nine headed dragon about the steps to follow in order to perfect his reign.

A DEFECT, THOUSAND VIRTUES

The Eastern dragons are said to be extremely proud… When their advice is not listened or when they are not adored enough, they are able to stop rain, invoke storms, carry floods and they are also able to cause food shortage.

In this sense, they resemble the Greek Gods. The offerings or “hecatombs” are similar to the ones caused by God Apollo, Zeus or Poseidon. In both scenarios, humankind had to provide many sacrifices in order to calm the gods and the dragons.

The Dragon means life essence; their celestial breath is known as “sheng chi”. The dragon is a generator of heat, light source, water, and it is a destroyer of misfortunes. It is the personification of Mother Nature’s forces.

Their main capacities are the protection instinct. Because they are divine animals, they can summon nomadic malignant spirits and grant security to those who wear their emblems.

In synthesis: the Chinese dragon is an analogy of Good Fortune.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
