CU-CHULAINNCuchulainn is Sometimes referred to as CU CHULAINN, or SETANTA

Son of LUGH and DECHTIRE, he carried out numerous heroic deeds, equipped with his dependable Gae Bholg  an extremely dangerous spear.

Every time it penetrated a body, 30 barbs opened, creating permanent damage plus a horrid mess.

CUCHULAINN’s traditional title was Setanta  until he switched it soon after destroying the guard dog of Cullan.

Regretting this, the hero agreed to replace the gaurd dog until eventually another one might be found.

~ The Tale about how Cuchulainn got his title. ~

Some time past, a king known as Conor MacNessa acquired warriors known as the Red Branch Knights. King Conor has a nephew known as Setanta that desired to become a Red Branch Knight.

At a rather young age he demonstrated superhuman attributes of intelligence, combat, magic and poems.

SETANTAOne evening he explained to his mother, “I desire to be a Red Branch Knight.” However she stated he is too young.

Setanta had been a happy child that played out the sport of hurling [the nationwide sport of Ireland similar to lacrosse or field hockey] with his friends.

The team usually won. Whenever Setanta was 10 he stated to his father, “I desire to join the Red Branch Knights.”

His father believed he was even now too young. So he remained on milking cows, lugging water to the home and cutting up wood.

One evening a male arrived at the home to tell tales.

He told quite a lot regarding King Conor and the knights.

That evening, when everybody was asleep, Setanta got his throwing stick and ball then left for King Conor’s fort.

It had been a lengthy journey however when he arrived, a throwing match was underway.

Setanta asked to join in but the other kids didn’t want that since he is a real good hurler.

So he went to ask King Conor and King Conor stated he may stay.

Several days afterwards, the king told Setanta,

“I’m attending a party at Culain’s, would you like to go?”

Setanta responded,

“I can come later on as I’m playing a throwing match.”

Later on that evening he set off. It was a lengthy trip.

He reached the fort and discovered a wolfhound protecting it. He struck the ball and slain Culain’s hound.

The man noticed the dog’s cry and leaped out. He explained,

“I am very sorry to see the dog go however I’m happy you’re alright. But who’s going to protect the house now?”

“I’ll become your guard dog up until you can replace the 1 I slain”,

” I’ll function as the Hound of Culain” said Setanta.

So that’s how Cuchulainn got his name.

Soon he became the best guard of all and joined the knights. He was the best Red Branch Knight ever.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
