Introduction to quartz crystal

With this guide I hope to introduce you to some of the basic points to consider when purchasing, and then working with healing crystals and stones.

History

The use of stones and crystals to aid health, good fortune and protection goes back towards the dawning of life and not just civilisation. One can very easily imagine an early human finding a beautifully polished stone in a riverbed, and picking it up to keep - not because it has a meaning or higher purpose, but because of it's inherent beauty. Over time humankind began to realise what different stones could do, and so the knowledge was passed on down the generations. The use of certain "precious" stones is well recorded in many religions around the world from the biblical Jewish High Priest, to the Shiva Linghams of Hinduism today.

First Impressions

Firstly, don't take for granted what you read in books or on a website or even in an auction about the properties attached to a particluar crystal or stone. They are just a basic guide as to what they can do, and not JUST what they are capable of. You will find lots of different interpretations attached to each crystal and will sometimes think, "So which is the right one?", and the answer is usually ALL of them. Metaphysical properties have been passed down through the centuries, and also by sensitive people in the near past who work closely with these healing stones, so you will find a lot of different meanings and will have to sift through them yourself. This is where the fun begins!

Choosing

The best crystal to start you off is just the bog standard clear quartz crystal, and it doesn't haven't to be anything fancy! Either go to a shop that sells them or mooch around websites to find them, and then buy one. Some people will tell you that when your crystal is ready to be found it will suddenly appear or make it's presence known, but don't feel that this means you can't buy on impulse. A lot of the crystals that I currently own have been bought because I thought they looked lush and beautiful, and that I just had to have it! If you like the look of something then get it, even if it's yet another cluster and you already own a dozen of them! So start off with the universal clear quartz crystal as it is probably the most abundant crystal you will find, and also the easiest to work with.

With this guide I hope to introduce you to some of the basic points to consider when purchasing, and then working with healing crystals and stones.
In part 1 I mentioned some basic history and choosing a crystal, and in this part I will go on to give some hints and tips about cleansing and then charging them.

Cleansing

When you bring your crystal home or after tearing off the packaging after the postman has delivered it, you need to cleanse it of all the energies it has accumulated on it's way to you. During it's journey from the mine where it was "birthed" to where you are sitting with it right now, it will have been touched by many people and so you need to get rid of what they have imprinted on it. There are LOADS of different ways to cleanse your crystals, and you just have to work through them all until you find one which suits you best. Some of the most common are listed below :

Wash under running water - tap or stream

Leave in sunlight/moonlight for 12-24 hours

Bury in earth for 24 hours - even a small pot will do

Place on large crystal cluster for 12-24 hours

Charging

So now that your crystal is nicely cleansed and ready for action, what do you do now? Well you now need to charge it - this means "instructing" the stone to do what you require of it, and you especially need to do this part if you are working with clear quartz. Healing stones which have a particluar healing property just need to be reminded of what it is that they will be doing, and it is very handy to do this if you will be giving it to a loved one. Clear quartz is like a blank piece of paper which needs someone to come along and write on what is needed, so you have to tell it exactly what you want.

Getting started

You need to find a comfortable and quiet place where you won't be disturbed, so that you can connect with the energies within the crystal. Using your dominant hand - the one you naturally write with - hold the crystal and breathe slowly and deeply, feeling the crystal within your hand and focusing upon how you want it to help you. If you find it easier to say it out loud then do so, and talk to it! In the beginning you may feel a little silly doing this but as you progress, you will become more and more used to it and may also find yourself meditating whilst charging them. Please make sure that no little fingers can grab hold of your crystals after you have cleansed and charged them, otherwise you will need to do it all over again.

THE ORIGIN OF QUARTZ CRYSTAL by Phantom



The Quartz Crystal is a beautiful, perfect form. It contains within it harmony, balance,
clarity and perfection. A quartz crystal takes over 10,000 years to form. They
come from deep within the Earth's core, and were formed when the earth was
evolving. Natural quartz crystals, often referred to by the ancient traditions as
the "veils of the earth", frozen water or frozen light, combine the elements
silicon and water throughout a lengthy process involving heat and pressure. They
are buried in the Earth, or sometimes in streambeds where they have washed
down from higher ground after being dislodged.

Ninety percent of the Earth's crust is made up of the mineral group known as
silicates, a combination of silicon and oxygen, plus other elements. The simplest
silicate is silicon and oxygen-quartz crystal. Chemically, it is the oxide of the
element silicon, and its chemical formula is SiO2. It has a hardness of 7 on the
Mohs scale. The crystal structure of quartz is hexagonal with void spaces in
geometric trails throughout the crystal.

The name crystal comes from the Greek work crystallos meaning "clear ice", for
the ancient Greeks thought that these transparent rock crystals were in face
frozen water turned to stone. Another legend has it that Holy Water was
poured out of the Heavens by God and frozen to ice in outer space on its voyage
to Earth. Angels petrified the "holy ice" to preserve it as a protective blessing
for humanity.

Clear Quartz by Phantom

Quartz atoms grow in perfect ‘double-helix-ical’ patterns, like DNA. Mankind has a deep connection with Quartz, the most common crystal on Earth. The prismatic nature of Quartz allows it to split natural clear light into the full spectrum of colours, so it can be worked with on/vibrate with all chakra's/colour centres. Quartz is able to help you perform MANY different types of healing and light work. Quartz helps all cells to attain their true optimum state of being. Quartz is so common and each piece so individual - that it can aid and enhance all metaphysical lessons and healing.

Rock Quartz will perform most of the Quartz functions, but a perfect and complete pointed Quartz crystal is most ideal for working with. Every atom within, is perfectly aligned and in place, allowing perfect vibration. Every atom is a perfect rainbow of Divine Light - splitting the light into all seven colours. They are able to channel healing energy direct through their bodies, from base to tip, and out through the point. These crystals can teach us how to channel more purified Unconditional love and healing energy into our environments and to our fellow beings. They cleanse, clarify, lighten and amplify the healing energy, and then focus it straight out through the point. (A crystal with a slightly chipped point will not be able to focus the energy so clearly.)

The Clear Quartz energy is naturally very stimulating and focusing. It is not generally a soothing or calming experience to work with Clear Quartz. It can help to attain clarity and calmness in any situation, but is itself a Storm element crystal, and works with the transformational and energetic aspects of the Storm energy. It is both an activating and balancing crystal, whereas most crystals are one or the other.

Natural grown clear Quartz crystals are energizing, activating, and bring light into their surroundings. As they can split light into all the colours, they will seek to enhance cells of all different types and vibratory rates. They will aid each cell to rid any unwanted/negative memories/patterns which may be stored, and encourage new regenerative growth, and optimum vibratory frequency. When a cell is not vibrating at its optimum rate, dis-ease/malfunction is likely. New cells are made all the time, but are copied as exact replicas including any disharmonic blueprints.

Quartz aids psychic abilities. Working with Quartz crystals opens and activates the higher chakras, as well as seeking to ground and vitalise. It will aid the ability to perceive, trust and utilise subtle information / energy. It will definitely increase and clarify intuition, and sense of trust in it. It will always accelerate healing and protect those who may need it, by diverting peril or highlighting one’s best options.

Quartz atoms vibrate at purified levels, and are more adaptable/all-encompassing than any other crystal. They can be precisely programmed / set to vibrate at a steady certain rate - they are used within watches and technology. Programming a Quartz crystal is similar to ‘tuning’ a compass – aligning the ions to Magnetic North, which can be done by simply stroking a needle upon a strong magnet and then allowing it to float in water– it will point to North.

They can be programmed actively or passively. The active method is to resonate/ connect with the crystal, and set it to perform a certain task with focused and clear intention. i.e.: send love to a friend, relax a certain muscle… The crystal will continue to perform this task until you interact with it again, change your intention. The passive method of programming is through repetitive use – i.e. if you always carry your crystal with you when perform a certain task it will take on board what you are doing, and become the crystal which guides that task.

Quartz Crystals evolve into many different shapes / terminations. Each shape has specific usages and energetic lessons to share.
