The gift of scent is a powerful perception. We often associate scent with our memories, and smelling a distinct fragrance can often trigger powerful emotions. Scent is a powerful tool that can be used for magickal purposes, and can easily be used in your home all of the time.

There are certain scents that have a profound effect on our senses. Some scents are calming. Others can be invigorating. Some fragrances can work as powerful aphrodisiacs, while others can provide healing. There is almost no limit to what the power of scent can do and the benefits that you can gain from it.

Take a moment and think back to times when you may have been ill or suffering from allergies. During these times, our sinus passages can become blocked and we can lose our sense of smell. While it may be difficult to realize it at the time since you are focusing on being sick, losing the ability to smell can cause a person to become a bit unbalanced and make them feel awkward. As humans, we were given the gift of scent for a reason. Certain smells can signify danger. Others help to stimulate our appetite. A person suffering from dehydration can actually seek out water just by scent alone. Scent is extremely important to us, and something that many people take for granted.

It is very easy to use scent in your home to continuously enjoy a wonderfully magickal feeling. The number of different ways that you can utilize scent in your home make it easy for everyone to find a method that works best for them. You can use aromatherapy, using essential oils for fragrance, incense, candles, reed diffusers, and more. Each uses a different method for releasing fragrance, so you can pick and choose which method will work best for each situation.

For instance, I personally keep a reed diffuser in my bedroom that is filled with a relaxing blend of essential oils such as lavender and rose. Using a reed diffuser, the scent is continuously released into the room, helping it to remain a calm and peaceful environment. In my home office, I will use a variety of different incense that helps to stimulate creativity and provide me with wisdom to accomplish my tasks, such as Desert Sage or Cinnamon. Using these scents helps me to maintain a truly magickal feeling, as it helps keep my mind, body and spirit grounded so that I can fully function at my absolute potential.

If you’ve ever tried to perform a spell with a mind that is clouded and distracted, you understand how important a clear, grounded mind is. Any spell, or for that matter anything that you do in life, will never work well if not done by a person that is grounded and calm. Though it may sound crazy to some, having pleasing and calming scents that permeate your home can help to keep you in that grounded and calm state of mind.

Of course, you can also use scents in a variety of other ways besides keeping your self calm and peaceful. Certain scents, such as citrus, can be extremely invigorating and energizing. Other scents can be used to create an environment that is sexually arousing. There are no limitations to the feelings that scent can provoke, which make them a powerful source of magick themselves.

I like to recommend that people experiment with a variety of different scents and sources of those scents to find those which will work best for each individual. Be prepared though, there are some fragrances that you will find very displeasing, so before you saturate your room with a strong essential oil, make sure it is one that you like that won’t be too overwhelming or hard to get rid of. I guarantee that in no time at all though, you too will be enjoying a wonderfully fragrant home full of beautiful scents that are pleasing to all of your senses.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
