In natural magick feathers are used in spells and ceremonies to promote change. They are used as catalysts to help focus concentration while carrying out spells and wishes.

The medicine bag, also called power pouch or sachet, often includes special feathers which have meaning to the wearer and help attracting good luck as well as driving away bad things.

Feathers are magickally ruled by the element of air. This makes them good communication helpers.

But each feather can also hold other special powers; depending on the bird it came from, it's color, place of discovery and other factors.

The knowledge of what kind of feather is best used for what kind of intent can only be found out for oneself by trial and error. A pigeon feather is not as helpful for creating a defense strategy as a feather taken from a bird of prey.

The general rule for future feather magicians is always to use self found feathers rather than bought ones. A shop cannot substitute a walk in nature nor the joy when the wanted feather is finally found.

Chicken feathers - some chickens are surprisingly exotic in appearance. The wide range of colors and patterns is astonishing although most Americans only know of the plain, white production chicken.

Chicken feathers can be used in many ways - depending on color and pattern. Most often use the feathers from a specific chicken in order to work spells and charms for that special one. You can also use rooster's feathers to protect hens and their nests since that is a big part of a rooster's job.

Black feathers are used in many spells. Black hen feathers can be used as a substitution for an actual black hen in some ceremonies.

Burn black or speckled chicken feathers to ash and use it in cleansing and uncrossing rituals.

Take black hen feather ashes and mix them in a floor wash. The ashes of the burned black chicken ashes will help in spiritually cleansing the house in the same way a living chicken cleans up spiritual messes in the yard.

Guinea Fowl feathers - these African birds are known as the night watchman of the water holes. This is because any unusual sound or movement will set them yellling. Their feathers are remarkably beautiful and used for protection magick.

Peacock feathers - the "eye" is thought to ward off the evil eye

Turkey feathers - these are sometimes used as a substitute for predator bird feathers, such as eagles. Like the chicken, turkeys come in some amazing variations that most people have never seen.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
