Yes, I make leather round disk rune sets. These are historical posable for metal was not a common item as it is today. Also being frugal with material one would continue to cut into material till it was no longer of a size that could be used for any things. Wood being used as building and other uses. The next commons material was cloth and leather. Melted glass drops were not in use. Stone took to long. Clay was a possibility but would not have been like what we had to day in common use. Traditionally runes have been stated to be made out of the broken shafts of weapons or nut baring trees. Hickory, ash and poplar were what spear shaft were mostly made of. Odin hung from the Yggdrasil which is told to be an ash, but there are conflicting reports it could have been a different type as well. I take the thought of a person who travels needs something easy to work in, light to carry and easy to replace. Hence leather. It holds upon rather nicely. Is easy to cut and mark. And is in common abundance during history.

I am currently going through the leather I have left and cutting more discs. Yes, hand marking the circle and hand cutting with scissors. Not a stamped perfect round disc. But one that has the look and feel of being hand made on the trail as would have been so. I have enough shiny black for one set. But the rest will be an assortment of colors and thickness. Mostly shades of brown. I brand inscribe them with a hot iron so the symbol is well in place. I do not color them in nor weather seal the leather {bees wax & hair dryer}. That I leave for those whom purchase them so to finishing them will make them theirs fully vice the starting that I have done. I if asked will sell blank disks as well, if asked for them and have some available. As I make the sets up I will post them in the featured pictures for sale. Currently there is two sets there already. from the first pictures here. I do include the blank 25th though there is actually only 24 runes. Below is the Runes I use, if one wants a different set of symbols then they need to ask and provide a sheet showing them, before I get to marking this batch.

OOOOOOO, these are NICE! I really like them! How much would you charge for a set? I have been drawn to Runes for many years but haven't found the one that realy calls to me...perhaps these are the ones?

Usually these sets of travel Runes go for $15.00 to $20.00. When I get to putting these into sets and branding them I will know further of the time and what will be the final cost of them. Watch for them in the featured pictures where the rest of the items for sale are shown.

Still cutting circles, so far have four sets of 25 of one color. The rest will be either three colored for the three aetts or patch-worked as I can do so many shades of brown to work with. Next rotation through material is simple kids bracelets and necklace pendants.

From the Work Table four sets of one color, one set according to deity color of the aett, and four sets of three colors for the three aetts. The rest are lined up from one to 7 there is one pile of 10 discs. Lots of brown shades from dark almost black to light brown. Several thickness and textures as well.

Well I have made the sets I had set aside in the making of the discs. Now I have these disks left. Some are of soft thin garment grade leather some are thicker armor grade and many in between. Lots of brown shades from so dark almost black to light brown. Some have textures as well not just smooth leather. Also have some with a glossy finish to them. A 13 of only one. Ten of two disks. Nine of three. Six piles of four. Six again of five. Four piles of six disks. And two of seven, with one of 9 disks as well. So what will these become? Or just wait until it is told to me?

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
