It's pretty inevitable, and I'm as guilty of it as anyone else -- you've got a website, and there are so many
awesome plugins, apps and widgets out there. Plugins that keep track of your calendar, widgets that show your recent Twitter posts, apps that rotate pictures of your adorable kitty for all to see. Who could resist?
So you load up on em. I did. I bet you did. We all did. It was awesome.
You could do anything! The power!
And somehow we didn't notice how long it took our sites to load. And somehow our bounce rate went up like the Front Range rising from the prairie. And we slowly got discouraged, because nobody visited our site, and we went on, disconsolate, to try something else.
And by 'we' I mean 'me'.
So what's your takehome from this? Don't put so much crap on your site.
Decluttering isn't just for physical objects any more. If you don't really, absolutely need it? Make it go away.
Your readers will thank you. And by 'your readers', I mean 'me'.
