MAGICAL/RITUAL LORE: Obsidian is simply lava that cooled so fast that the minerals contained within didn't have time to form. It is a naturally occurring glass.
The Ancient Aztecs fashioned flat, square mirrors of this black glass for use in divination. According to legend the famous Dr. Dee, a magician-alchemist hired by England's Queen Elizabeth I, may have used one of these mirrors in his scrying sessions.
It was a popular material for fashioning stone knives, spear points and arrowheads, and when used for these purposes, it is often known as "flint." Such arrowheads have magical properties.
MAGICAL USES: Obsidian is a grounding, centering stones. Hold it in your hands or place your bare feet on two small, polished pieces when you're flighty or can't seem to get your physical life in order. Remember - the physical is the path to the spiritual. Each is a reflection of the other.
Obsidian is effective when carried or used in protective rituals. One involves surrounding a white candle with four obsidian arrowheads that each point to one of the directions. This sets up aggressive energies which guard the place in which it is set up.
Spheres of obsidian, still fashioned in Mexico, are fine scrying tools. If you don't have good results with quartz crystal, try a piece or sphere of obsidian. For some, the blackness of the stone allows easier access to the subconscious mind.

ATTRIBUTES: Obsidian is molten lava that cooled so quickly that it had no time to crystallize. Obsidian is a stone without boundaries or limitations.
As a result it works extremely fast and with great power. It's truth enhancing
reflective qualities are merciless in exposing flaws weaknesses and blockages.
Nothing can be hidden from Obsidian. Pointing out how to ameliorate all destructive
and disempowering conditions Obsidian impels us to grow and lends solid support
while we do so it needs careful handling and is best used under the guidance
of a qualified therapist as it can bring negative emotions and unpleasant truths
rushing to the surface.
HEALING: Obsidian's greatest gift is insight into the cause of disease.
It aids the digestion of anything that is hard to accept and promotes
physical digestion. It detoxifies dissolving blockages and tension
in the physical subtle bodies including hardened arteries.
It reduces the pain of arthritis joint problems cramps and injuries.
An elixir is beneficial for shock. It alleviates pain and stanches bleeding
benefiting the circulation.
POSITION:Place as appropriate. Use as a ball or mirror for scrying.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
