Merlinite is a rare type of dendritic agate. It is a combination of manganese oxide with inclusions of both potassium and barium. This particular variety occurs in Cornwall in the United Kingdom, but is also found in New Mexico.

Merlinite has gained it’s name from crystal enthusiasts, however it has been called Dendritic Opal and  Psilomelane though in actual fact Psilomelane, Dendritic Agate and Dendritic Opal occurs more widely than the Merlinite form being available in Virginia, Somerset and Orkney.

The appeal of Merlinite lies in it’s black and white appearance, the black forms the dendritic pattern on a white background creating the impression of thread like branching tributaries.

The name given to Merlinite is no act of randomness. It’s source in Cornwall has long been associated with tales of Arthur and his sorcerer Merlin. It is in the name Merlin that we begin to get our first inclination of the properties that have been attributed to Merlinite.

It can be concluded that Merlinite is thought to be in some way magical and mystical, however, even by the standards of the crystal enthusiast, that is very sweeping description that tells us very little of the properties that have been attributed to Merlinite,We must then, look to appearance to see what information can be gained of it’s properties.

The most evident feature in it’s appearance is it’s colouration. Black and White, immediately one draws associations with duality as in Night and Day and all the metaphors we use for light and dark, and yet it’s not a clear cut division of the two aspects, we see the branching darkness making incursions into the light. This gives the impression that dualities blend into either aspect of the whole. A conclusion typified by the Yin and Yang symbol. This then suggests that Merlinite is an ideal integration crystal that enables the user to reconcile all aspects of themselves, even those that are at odds with one another. It is an ideal reminder to us that good people sometimes do bad things and vice verse. It shows that happy people are sometimes sad.Merlinite is a powerful balancing crystal allowing for and encouraging equilibrium.

On an esoteric level the combining of the two opposites , black and white is a representation of one world branching into another. This could be a representation of our consciousness and sub-consciousness coming together, or perhaps the marrying of our material world with a non physical realm. Meditators and Shamans alike regard Merlinite as an excellent crystal for inner journeying as the boundaries between levels of awareness are breached and penetrated in much the same way as the black thread like branches in Merlinite spread into the solid white.

In creating pathways into other realities, Merlinite provides for ease in communication with non corporeal energies. Many use it in communication with Spirit Guides and Totem Animals,Merlinate encourages you to go deeper and deeper into other realms and is an aid to astral projection, transcendental meditation and vision questing. It also provides psychic protection through it’s black colouration and it’s white light.

In conclusion, Merlinite can assist with all of the following;

1. Divination (all types)2. Healing through balance. ( Excellent for Vertigo and other balance related illness)3. The attraction of synchronicity into your life for the purpose of setting you on your natural life’s path ( the path of life that shows least resistance to the souls journey or going with the flow as it is called in today’s parlance ).4. It encourages us to be open and receptive, even in cases where past hurts may have encouraged us to build an emotional wall around ourselves.5. It augments and improves both intellect and intuition with a particular emphasis on strengthening our organizational abilities6. It allows us to take out karmic debt from this life and any other life and neutralise it.7. It encourages channeling spirit and other non physical communication.8. It provides ease for consciousness excursions in any form of out of body experience.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
