Crystal Complementary Colours

Color is all. When color is right, form is right. Colour is everything, color is vibration like music; everything is vibration. --Marc Chagall

The combination of color and crystals gives us powerful, focused vibrations. Think of the golden brilliance of citrine, the soft pink of rose quartz, or the soothing tones of green calcite.

One of the most popular ways of working with colored crystals is to place them on a part of the body related to the appropriate chakra, i.e., green crystals for the heart center. The Beyond the Rainbow website has many articles on the subject of the chakras and chakra balancing at: http://www.rainbowcrystal.com/crystal/crystala.html under "Crystals and the Chakras."

You can also utilize the vibrations of color by working with complementary colors. The basic complementary color pairs are red-green, blue-orange, purple-yellow.

Please note that none of the suggestions below are scientific or exact. I've suggested some traditional associations of color with emotion. You can also discover the color that best describes your emotions if you sit quietly, get in touch with what you are feeling, and see/feel if a color comes to mind.

Whatever color may emerge, think of an opposite (as described in the Red/Green combination) or a near-opposite (as shown in the blue/red-orange example).

Red/Green: Emotional Cooling

When we speak of people as "seeing red," we're describing a condition of anger. Anger can generate physical heat, make one feel explosive, and may turn one's face red as blood rushes through the body.
Anger is a fiery emotion. It can also be expressed in milder forms like irritation, annoyance, or impatience. Physically, anger may be expressed as inflammation or any kind of pulsating pain.

Green complements red on the color wheel. If you want to reduce or dissolve a feeling of anger, consider a green stone.

One of the most cooling green stones is green calcite. It has the feeling of soothing water, as well as a watery appearance. You can hold a green calcite and say to yourself, "Water douses the fire of anger," "I feel my anger cooling and dissolving," or any statement that feels appropriate.

Anger often makes the heart center feel overactive, and aventurine can be placed there to balance the emotions. Green tourmaline can be used to actively flow green energy to the heart center. Chrysocolla, the peace stone, can also have a cooling effect on the heart center; while emerald accesses the highest vibrations of spiritual love.

Again, with any of these stones, you may want to speak or think an appropriate affirmation. The stone itself may give you the right feelings/words.

Blue/Orange-Red: Building a Fire

Sometimes one may feel emotionally detached, disconnected. In general, blue, especially light blue and blue-green, relate to the communication center and can be used to enhance many issues related to clear and creative communication.

Sometimes, though, communications don't get across because they lack passion and warmth. The receiver may not have the sense that the speaker cares about them.

In such instances, a red or orange-red crystal can help. In using one of these, think about the person with whom you want to communicate before you speak as you hold the stone. If the communication is to be written or over the phone, keep this crystal near you. If the communication is to be face-to-face, wear the stone or keep it in a pocket.

Carnelian, an orange-red stone, helps to ground us in the present. Working with this stone can help create a connection to another that is unclouded by the past, and not weakened by other distracting thoughts. This is also a warm stone.

Ruby embodies passion and creativity. Garnet helps to create an energy of patience, which can be crucial when you're communicating with people you consider difficult. Red jasper slowly (and also patiently) builds bridges of emotional connection.

Purple and Indigo/Yellow: Consciousness and Manifestation

Purple relates to the sixth chakra, governing intuition, vision, and all inner senses. It's also considered the color of transitions, such as sunset, sunrise, and the transition from physical to nonphysical existence. Any period of transition can be blurry in terms of physical details. Indigo, another sixth-chakra color, relates to night, when all details are obscured by darkness.

People who are highly intuitive, dreamers, possibly psychic, may find it difficult to manifest an inner vision in the physical world. Then the color yellow, relating to the third chakra, personal power and self-esteem, can be used to nurture visions into physical reality.

When spring comes, the sun causes life to push up from within the earth and flourish in its light and energy. All golden crystals relate to the power of manifestation.

Citrine is the stone most related to manifesting abundance and to the balanced use of will. Golden calcite helps to integrate new energies and beliefs areas related to personal empowerment, such as relationships and business.

Rutilated quartz helps to add enhanced creating energy to our dreams. Pyrite helps us to come up with creative ideas that can help bring abundance in our lives. Tiger's eye helps to teach us good timing in terms of when to act on a dream.

The above doesn't provide an exhaustive list of color complements, but should be enough to get you started. You may also find it helpful to wear a color you've chosen to shift your mood.

Darkness and Light

The color spectrum provides one way to characterize emotions. Degrees of dark and light provide another. Dark colors are the most grounded and have the most dense vibrations. At the other end of the brightness range, the color white, containing the energy of all colors, has high, fast vibrations.

More detailed information on the light-dark spectrum is available in the article, Higher Ground. In brief, if you find yourself in a state of depression, consider adding some bright colors to your life. If, for whatever reason, you can't wear them, have them around in the form of crystals. Choose a bright stone that attracts you, gaze at it, and imagine yourself filled with its energy. Carry it with you and look at it during the day.

In contrast, if you find yourself often ungrounded, dark colors and stones may be exactly what you need. The dark stones provide many possibilities, each with its particular energy.

If you feel ungrounded and depressed, bright grounding stones such as red jasper, bloodstone, sodalite, charoite, or tiger's eye can be helpful.

Heart Balancing

Many times, working on the heart center provides a balancing effect. The traditional colors for this area are essentially complementary, being green and pink. Aventurine, for example, helps to balance the physical energies of the heart; while rose quartz helps with emotional healing.

Another way to balance your energy is to focus on the solar plexus. Most solar plexus crystals are warm in color, ranging from coral to the warm apple green of chrysoprase. Using a rhodochrosite for deep breathing, a peridot to ease hurt feelings, and a clear quartz to enhance the energy of the other stones can be very balancing.

Working with the basic principles of complementary colors, you will find many new ways to benefit from your crystals and to bring new energies into your life. When we focus deliberately on the vibrational aspects of color, we can learn how to shift our vibrations to transform our emotions, and ultimately, our experiences.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
