A Hematite Scry

Need an answer to a question? Let Hematite help!

In a dark room, light a RED CANDLE. Hold a large piece of HEMATITE in your receptive hand (the one you do not write with) so that the RED CANDLE'S flame is reflected on it. Gaze at the reflection - let your eyes relax - and imagine your question. See the question in your mind -- feel the emotions associated with it.

The answer will come to you - just relax and let the information flow!

FOLK NAME: Volcano Spit

ENERGY: Projective

PLANET: Saturn

ELEMENT: Fire

POWERS: Healing, Grounding, Divination

MAGICAL/RITUAL LORE: Hematite is a strange stone. It is heavy, solid, and silvery black. Its name alone is something of a mystery. To ancients, hematite was what we now know as bloodstone, so virtually all magical information relating to "hematite" in old books refers to bloodstone. This hematite, though, when worked on a lapidary wheel, "bleeds" and produces stains that look much like blood.

Hematite is a fine, showy stone. In Italy and elsewhere, it is fashined into necklaces which are sold as "volcano spit." Magical information relating to this stone is scarce.

Hematite possesses the curious property of "healing" itself. Make a small scratch on the surface of the stone, then rub your finger over it. The scratch may disappear.

MAGICAL USES: Hematite is said to be powerful in drawing illness from the body. As with all stones, it is held in the hands while visualizing, then placed on the skin directly over the afflicted area. A necklace of smallstones can also be worn for healing.

Hematite is worn for grounding and stabilizing purposes, and to focus the attention on the physcial plane.

A scrying: In a darkened room, light a red candle. Settle before it and hold a large piece of hematite so that the candle's flame is reflected on it. Gaze at the reflection and visualize a question. The answer will come to you.

Hematite meaning and properties

Hematite is used to improve relationships. If you need your personal relationship to be better, carry a hematite with you always.

The name comes from the Greek word for blood. It has been used as an amulet against bleeding, and so is known as the "blood stone". When arranged like the petals of a flower, it is referred to as the "iron rose". Native American folklore states that war paint made from hematite will make one invincible in battle. People in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries wore hematite jewelry during mourning.

Scientists of the Mars Exploration Rover Project believe that deposits of hematite on Mars may help prove whether large amounts of liquid water ever flowed on Mars' surface. They say that where water was, life may have had a chance to thrive as well.

Hematite is good for increasing intuition. In jewelry it is best in a ring worn on the left hand.

Healing properties of Hematite

Hematite stimulates iron absorption in the small intestine, which in turn improves oxygen supply to the body. It can be in direct contact with the skin, but results in inflammation for some people, so test it carefully on yourself before use.

Sources of Hematite

Brazil is the most important source of hematite. Other sources include: China, Canada, England, and Germany.

Hematite is said to keep inward peace. Many believe it to aid balance, reason, and clarity.
It is believed to dissolve negativity and transform it into love, making it a perfect stone in building peaceful, loving, kind relationships.
It may enhance memory and intellect, strengthen circulatory systems and blood and kidney disorders.
Magnetic hematite, which can maintain the natural charge of nerve cells, is reputed to have many health benefits. Many use it to improve quality of sleep, aid the immune system, cure ailments of hands, enhance physical energies, and help headaches and migraines.
It is an excellent stone for subduing the base chakra, as its energies align you closely with that of the Earth. It is especially useful when one feels over-aggressiion during a need for survival, encouraging inward peace.

The Importance of Gemstone Jewelry in our High Tech World:

Today's high-tech world makes it necessary for one to wear gemstone jewelry. We live in a world with a chaotic energy field, created by electronics around us. Modern conveniences such as cell phones, computers and microwaves emit radiation and electromagnetic waves that interfere with our bodies' magnetic fields. Fortunately, nature has given us the gift of gemstones, whose organic energies help us return to our natural healthy state. However, gemstones need to be worn in order for us to gain the full benefits of its energies, as its energies are extended to approximately 1 foot. Gemstone jewelry is the most convenient way to maintain bodies magnetic field, without invasive medical procedures. It is the most stylish, easiest way to maintain your health, restoring bodily, mental, spiritual health to its perfect natural state.

Hematite History

Hematite's role as a healing stone dates back to Ancient Egypt. In ancient civilizations, hematite was used to stop blood flow and remove poisons from the body.

The very fact that hematite stones are magnetic amongst the huge variety of metaphysical crystals that are non-magnetic, indicates that we have here a mineral with some pretty amazing properties. Another important feature of hematite that cannot be neglected is the fact that it is an iron based stone. Surely, a huge number of crystals and semi precious stones have iron atoms within their structure, but in hematite stones iron is the dominant constituent. In general, we can say that hematite is a stone of healing, grounding, fortune telling, meditation, stabilization and protection. Hematite is a great stone to have, either as loose stone (see the photo bellow) or as a gem in some form of jewelry.

During the 18th and 19th centuries people would wear this as jewelry while they were mourning.

Hematite has also been known to decrease negative energies. This is actually one of the main uses of this stone for me.  The element that is associated with Hematite is Fire. It is best for grounding, healing, and divination. The planet that is associated with this stone is considered to be Saturn. So when doing spell craft you may keep that in mind. It is a stone of Aquarius and Aries but is mostly assigned to Scorpio. If you are a Scorpio it is said that Hematite will protect you and also warn you of danger by changing temperatures.

The Chakra this stones is best for is the Root chakra.

So if you plan on working any spells for divination, healing, grounding, balancing your mind/body/spirit, or even to decrease negative energies then this stone is one that you may want to consider to use.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
