The shapes of stones we find, buy, and use affect their use in magick and healing. This is a brief guide to deciphering what the shapes of the stones you love most are best suited for.

ROUND stones symbolize the receptive powers of the universe, of magnetism and the Mother Goddess. They are linked with the female reproductive system and indeed can be used to represent women in rituals. These stones are keys to spirituality, to unfolding psychic awareness. They are used in love spells and in all manner of attraction ritual. Spheres are often used for scrying.

LONG stones are projective and represent electricity and the Great God. These are energy stones and can be carried for this purpose. For protection hang one on the front door or place before a mirror.

LONG, THIN stones are obvious phallic symbols, although this doesn't necessarily include quartz crystals or other crystalline stones. (Quartz crystal represents the Great Mother, no matter the shape.)

LONG, ROUND stones can be used in conjunction for love spells. Place them beside each other on the altar.

EGG-shaped stones are used to stimulate creativity and fresh ideas. Placed on the altar they bring fertility to the ritual. In the past, women carried small, egg-shaped stones to promote conception. Larger ones can be placed in the garden for fertile plants.

SQUARE stones symbolize Earth, prosperity and abundance. They also promote stability and grounding. Use a square stone to concentrate on one project at a time if you feel that your life is too scattered.

HEART-shaped stones are, obviously, used to magickally stimulate or draw love. Carried they bring love or magnify the love within, to allow you to give and receive love.

TRIANGULAR shaped stones are protective. To guard your home, place a triangular stone in the window facing the nearest street.

L-SHAPED stones bring good fortune, perhaps because this form suggests the conjunction of the spiritual with the physical. They should be carried as good luck pieces and placed on the altar.

DIAMOND shaped stones are used to attract riches.

HOLEY OR HOLED stones, those that occur with a natural hole, are receptive and represent the element of Water. As a magickal protectant, holed stones were worn around the neck, placed in the house, hung from the front door. Hung by a red ribbon from the bedpost, they prevent nightmares.

Another power resident in holed stones is the enchantment of psychism. In a wild and lonely place, preferably by moonlight, hold a holed stone up to one eye, close the other and peer through the hole. Looking through it in daylight is said to promote better vision.

To assist the body's healing process, charge a holey stone to absorb the disease. Place this stone in a tub of warm, salted water and soak it for several minutes. Repeat once a day for a week. Cleanse the stone after this and repeat as necessary. Healing women used the stone to heal the sick by rubbing the stone over the body. The stone was said to absorb the disease. This process will also maintain health.

STARS appearing in a stone are thought to increase the magickal effectiveness.

CROSS-SHAPED stones are both projective and receptive. Because of its shape, the cross-shaped stone is worn or carried by those practicing elemental magic or by those wishing to balance the four elements withing themselves. It is placed on the altar for power during rituals of all kinds. As with all stones of unusual shape or patterns, it is carried for luck. The most common cross-shaped stone is staurolite, or the Faerie Cross.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
