You know, sometimes the best meals ever are the ones where you just wing it. Tonight, it was one of those nights. I had no idea what I was going to make, I was not even sure what I had on hand. But dinner time was rapidly approaching and I needed something. So I scrounged through the kitchen, threw together some of the best stir fry I have ever had. Served over rice, it was not only a huge hit with my son, who loves stir fry, but with my husband later as well. I loved it too. So, here is what went into this amazing stir fry. Sorry I didn’t grab any pictures. I always think about it afterwards.

Pork Stir Fry

1 ½ lb boneless pork tenderloin

1 tsp sesame oil

1 cup Teriyaki marinade (or sauce)

½ apple diced

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

½ cup jellied cranberry sauce

3 Tbsp soy sauce

1 bag stir fry vegetables of your choice (I used snap pea stir fry mix)

Rice to serve stir fry over

I cubed the pork roast up into bite size pieces. I heated my skillet up and put the oil in. I tossed in the pork and started browning it. While it was browning, I diced up the apples and threw them in there. Then I put the cinnamon and ginger over it and let it cook.  It was smelling good in my kitchen then.  Then I discovered I didn’t really have as much teriyaki sauce as I thought. So I dumped the sauce into a bowl and tried to figure out what I could add to this to make more sauce. Thinking along the lines of fruit – I saw the jellied cranberry sauce. I remembered a cook once telling me that jellies were good to add to sauces. Hmm, okay, so I threw about ½ cup of cranberry sauce into the teriyaki sauce and mixed it as best I could. I added the frozen stir fry veggies to the pot, dumped the sauce over it all and stirred. Boy, the smells were so delicious that my son came out of his room and told me it smelled like a Chinese restaurant in the house and he was hungry. I cooked up the rice to serve it over and voila – done.

Let me tell you, it got eaten up. I was going to bring the left overs to work with me for my meal tonight, but they wouldn’t let me. It was about gone by the time I went to work. Really got to remember this one. Quick, easy, delicious. I would think it would work just as good with chicken as with pork. Maybe not so much with beef – but wow, really good.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
