I use this but I use names of which I was entrusted with.In time if you work and show sincerity and prove your worth, The Dragons will give you names to work with.

Set up your altar or select a suitable place to work. Preferably, you should be able to walk around your altar or working area but this is not necessary. Lay out your tools, candles and the items to be used in your work as follows:

BASIC ALTAR

Guardian
Candle
(Red)

Feminine Elder
Dragon Candle
(Black)

Incense

Salt
Container

Oil

Libation
Plate/Chalice

Censer(optional)

Pentacle

Athame

Guardian
Candle
(Red)

Masculine Elder
Dragon Candle
(White)

Bowl of
Water

Cauldron

Basic tools needed are an athame (you can make do with your first two fingers), chalice, blessed salt, water (do not use distilled), thurible, purification incense, charcoal, and altar candles. Proceed as follows: (can be done as a solitary or a group.)

Sage the room and yourself with a sage stick; then anoint your fore head with an appropriate oil (during the waxing use a Pentagram, during waning use a Cross). Light the Altar/Guardian Candles. Do a Qabalistic Cross or LBRP to ground and center. The area in which the circle is cast must be purified by salt and water (earth and water) and incense (fire and air) to prevent contamination by unwanted forces.

SALT AND WATER PURIFICATION

Place Bowl of Water on Pentacle, inscribe 3 Earth Banishing Pentagrams, and touch water with Athame (or fingers) and say:

“I exorcise thee, O Creature of Water, and cast out from thee all
impurities and uncleanliness of the World of the Phantasm.”
”AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

Remove Bowl from Pentacle. Put three measure of salt on the Pentacle, inscribe 3 Earth Banishing Pentagrams, and touch salt with Athame (or fingers) and say:

“Blessings upon thee, O Creature of Salt, free of hindrance and
pure by nature. Wherefore I bless thee that thou mayest aid me.”
”AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

Take salt from Pentacle and pour salt into Bowl. Place Bowl with salt and water on Pentacle. With Athame (or fingers) stir water 3 times and say:

“I mix this salt and water that what so ever it toucheth be free of
all hindrances and impurities and wax mighty in the way of the
Dragons of Old.”

Take the Bowl and beginning in the East, sprinkle first above the Altar then below it. Then continue in an outward deosil spiral. As you start and while proceeding say 3 times:

“Salt and Water by casting thee,
No spell or unknown hindrance be,
Except in true accord with me.
”AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

(Repeat until circle is completely cleansed. Usually first time above then below altar, second time around inner part of circle, and third time around outer part of circle. If in a group they wait and only repeat “SO MOTE IT BE” at the third time.)

Return to Altar and replace Bowl.

FIRE AND AIR PURIFICATION

Place Censer on Pentacle, light the coal, inscribe 3 Earth Banishing Pentagrams, and touch charcoal with Athame (or fingers) and say:

“Blessings upon thee, O Creature of Fire, free from hindrance and pure by nature. Wherefore I Bless thee that thou mayest aid me.”
“AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

Remove Censer from Pentacle. Put three measures of incense on the Pentacle, inscribe 3 Earth Banishing Pentagrams, and touch incense with Athame (or fingers) and say:

“I exorcise thee, O Creature of Air, and cast out from thee all
impurities and uncleanliness of the World of the Phantasm.”
“AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

Take incense from Pentacle and pour incense into Censer. Place Censer with charcoal and incense on Pentacle. With Athame (or fingers) stir the smoke 3 times and say:

“I mix this fire and air that where so ever it bloweth be free of
all hindrances and impurities and wax mighty in the way of the
Dragons of Old.”

Take the Censer and beginning in the East, wave first above the Altar then below it. Then continue in an outward deosil waving Censer left to right. As you start and while proceeding say 3 times:

“Creature of Air, this charge I give,
No evil in thy presence live!
Creature of Fire, this charge I lay,
No evil in thy presence stay!”

(Repeat until circle is completely cleansed. Usually first time above then below altar, second time around inner part of circle, and third time around outer part of circle.)

Return to Altar and replace Censer.

CALL THE LORDS OF THE WATCHTOWERS

The next step is to call the Dragons of each Cardinal point (quarter) of the circle. The Dragons are elementals and represent together the four basic elements of nature. They will guard your circle and give it balance. Frequently, a candle of appropriate color is placed at the quarter and lit when evoking the Dragons. The color correspondences are: yellow for east (air), red for south (fire), blue for west (water), and green for north (earth).
Unless a special purpose is intended, the quarters are called starting in the east and continuing deosil around the circle rather than widdershins. Before each evocation, draw the appropriate elemental evoking pentagram in the air with a deosil circle around it.

Go to the Eastern Quadrant, and light the yellow candle:

With the Athame (or fingers), draw an Air Evoking Pentagram. Energize it by pressing the center with the tip of the Athame (or fingers). Visualize a yellow Pentagram. Say:

“Hail ye Dragons of the East.
I do summon, stir and call you up that you may watch over this rite. I bid thee welcome and ask that you guard the Eastern Quadrant.”

Go to the Southern Quadrant, and light the red candle:

With the Athame (or fingers), draw a Fire Evoking Pentagram. Energize it by pressing the center with the tip of the Athame (or fingers). Visualize a red Pentagram. Say:

“Hail ye Dragons of the South.
I do summon, stir and call you up that you may watch over this rite. I bid thee welcome and ask that you guard the Southern Quadrant.”

Go to the Western Quadrant, and light the blue candle:

With the Athame (or fingers), draw a Water Evoking Pentagram. Energize it by pressing the center with the tip of the Athame (or fingers). Visualize a blue Pentagram. Say:
“Hail ye Dragons of the West.
I do summon, stir and call you up that you may watch over this rite. I bid thee welcome and ask that you guard the Western Quadrant.”

Go to the Northern Quadrant, and light the green candle:

With the Athame (or fingers), draw an Earth Evoking Pentagram. Energize it by pressing the center with the tip of the Athame (or fingers). Visualize a green Pentagram. Say:

“Hail ye Dragons of the North.
I do summon, stir and call you up that you may watch over this rite. I bid thee welcome and ask that you guard the Northern Quadrant.”

Go to the east. With the Athame (or fingers), envision a bright white light from the tip into the ground. Walk in a deosil (clockwise) direction, inscribing the circle, visualizing an energy boundary, and saying:

“I conjure thee, O Circle of Power, that thou beest a boundary
between the world of Man and the Realm of the Dragons.
By the Dragon’s Fire to be a guardian and protection
for the power raised within thee.”
“AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

Draw an infinity sign to tie the circle together.

RAISE THE CONE OF POWER (Optional)

The Cone of Power or simply Cone is composed of energy you draw from the earth. It provides both a source of power and focus for your work. Techniques vary and you will eventually find a method that best suits your personal needs and talents. However, the following is provided as an example.

“Imagine roots extending from your feet (if standing) or spine (if sitting) into the earth. Go deep to the earth’s core. Now draw up pure white light from the earth into your body. Send this energy around the circle at ground level in a deosil (clockwise) direction. As you keep pumping energy from the earth. From the center of the circle, raise the energy in a cone shape to the ceiling. Now, slowly or in one burst (depending on personal preference) raise the cone up until you reach the moon (you should visualize the moon straight above the circle’s center). Attach the cone to the moon. Relax for a few minutes visualizing your Cone before proceeding. Come back down from the moon into your body. When ready open your eyes and drop your hands.”

INVOKE/CALL THE ELDER DRAGONS

Once you circle is cast, it is time for the purpose at hand. At this time, you would invoke/call the Elder Dragons, work a spell, do a meditation such as for your spirit guide, or celebrate a full moon or Sabbat. After each invocation light the candle for the Elder Dragon you just called. Remember you first invoke the Feminine Elder Dragon and then secondly the Masculine Elder Dragon. After you have invoked/called the Elder Dragons and done whatever purpose work, you would then bless the cakes and wine before serving.

BLESSING OF THE CAKE AND WINE

Pour wine into chalice, (priest) raise chalice, (priestess) raise basket of cakes above alter and say: (Example)

“Oh Great and Mighty Dragons,
Of magnificence and joyous strength.
Cast now thy blessings on this feast of sacrament
That we may honor Thee
And learn of Thy mysteries of life,
And the Magic of the Earth.
We ask that you join us in this feast,
And bless these cakes and this wine in Thy name.
BLESSED BE!”

Leave a serving on the Altar for each of the Elder Dragons. Serve the Priestess and Priest first. After serving everyone in the circle, a toast is made to the Elder Dragons. If members of the circle wish to make toasts they can at this time. After all are done, you can then begin taking down the circle. A circle is taken down in the exact opposite procedure from casting it.

FAREWELL TO THE ELDER DRAGONS

When you say farewell to the Elder Dragons you say it first to the Masculine Elder Dragon and then secondly to the Feminine Elder Dragon. Snuff out the candle to each one once the farewell is said. Remember the last two lines in both farewell should be:

“Stay if you will, go if you must.
In perfect love and perfect trust.”

TAKING DOWN THE CONE OF POWER (Optional, only done if Cone was raised)

“Again visualize your Cone attached to the Moon above. Detach your strand of the Cone and start pulling your strand down towards you. Once down, stop the energy flow. Only keep what energy you need. Any excess energy take and ground into the earth. Lift your feet and break the roots from them (if standing) or shift your body and break them from your spine (if sitting).”

OPENING THE CIRCLE

Go to the Eastern Quadrant, with Athame (or fingers), cut through the infinity sign to start releasing the circle, point to the ground and envision the circle fading away. Walk widdershins (counterclockwise) while saying:

”By my will, I erase thee, O Circle of Power.
And return this ground once more to the world of man.
AS MY WILL, SO MOTE IT BE!”

FAREWELL TO THE WATCHTOWERS

Go to the Northern Quadrant. With Athame (or fingers), draw an Earth Banishing Pentagram. Envision it fading out by pressing the flat of the blade (or your hand) to the center of the Pentagram while saying:

”Hail ye Dragons of the Northern Quadrant.
I thank thee for thy guard and watchful eye this night,
And bid thee blessings as you return to your lovely realms.
May there always be peace between we and thee.
BLESSED BE!”
Snuff out the green candle.

Go to the Western Quadrant. With Athame (or fingers), draw a Water Banishing Pentagram. Envision it fading out by pressing the flat of the blade (or your hand) to the center of the Pentagram while saying:

”Hail ye Dragons of the West.
I thank thee for thy guard and watchful eye this night,
And bid thee blessings as you return to your lovely realms.
May there always be peace between we and thee.
BLESSED BE!”

Snuff out the blue candle.

Go to the Southern Quadrant. With Athame (or fingers), draw a Fire Banishing Pentagram. Envision it fading out by pressing the flat of the blade (or your hand) to the center of the Pentagram while saying:

”Hail ye Dragons of the South.
I thank thee for thy guard and watchful eye this night,
And bid thee blessings as you return to your lovely realms.
May there always be peace between we and thee.
BLESSED BE!”
Snuff out the red candle.

Go to the Eastern Quadrant. With Athame (or fingers), draw an Air Banishing Pentagram. Envision it fading out by pressing the flat of the blade (or your hand) to the center of the Pentagram while saying:

”Hail ye Dragons of the East.
I thank thee for thy guard and watchful eye this night,
And bid thee blessings as you return to your lovely realms.
May there always be peace between we and thee.
BLESSED BE!”

Snuff out the yellow candle. Return to Altar, snuff out the Altar/Guardian Candles, and say:

“The circle is open, yet unbroken.
May the blessings of the Dragons
be with you all until we meet again. BLESSED BE!”

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
