Whether you are a religious person or not you have to admit the fact that the demons have played a huge role in mythology, and in the history of many civilizations. In many of the cases, the people have denied science or medicine, considering the spirits or the demons to be the ones responsible for some of the events which occurred over the course of time.

The theme of demonic possession is not new, and I am certain that you have seen at least one movie about it. The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Paranormal Activity, and many other movies have made the demons something to fear. These are the worst, cruelest, and weirdest demons from mythology and religion.

Abizou

Abizou, which is also known as Obizu, Byzou, Obizuth, and Obyzouth, comes from the Jewish mythology. She is a woman, and she is responsible for the infant deaths, miscarriages, and still births. It is said that she was infertile and this is the main reason why she does this acts. It is said that she has snake or fish attributes.

Agares

Agreas, or Agreas comes from the Christian demonology. It is said that this demon makes the people who run, stay still. It might not seem too much, but it is said that he has killed very many people. Think about a tornado for example; that is a situation when you would want to run as fast as you can. You would not be able to do that if he would make you still. It is also said that he can cause earthquakes, which means that those two powers are a recipe for disaster. He is the ruler of the eastern zone of Hell, he controls 31 legions of demons, and he knows numerous languages, and he uses them for cussing. His description might seem like a joke, but it is said that he looks like a pale old man who rides a crocodile.

Aka Manah

Aka Manah, or Akem Manah comes from the Zoroastrian mythology, and his name can be translated as “manah made evil”, manah meaning mind. He is the demon that causes the evil intentions in people. His main task is to stop the people from doing their moral duties.

Ala

Ala comes from the Christian demonology and he, or they are very strange. Ale is a group of demons who do bad things but who can also do good deeds. It is said that they cause bad weather, like to eat children, and they can also eat the moon and the sun. They should not be messed with, because they are very dangerous, but they can also be good, as if one approaches them with respect, they will help that person by making him rich and by saving his life. It is unknown how they look like, as some say that they look like dark clouds, others say they look like ravens.

Asag

Asag comes from the Sumerian mythology, and he is just one of the demons who cause sickness. He is different than all the other demons because he slept with all the mountains in the world, and his offspring is made out of rocks. It aids him in battle and it stays by him whenever he needs it. He is very ugly, and it is said that because of his physical appearance the fish in the water start to boil when they see him. How such a thing can happen, don’t ask me.

Belphegor

Belphegor comes from the Christian demonology and has a very interesting history. He was “born” in Assyria, where he was known by the name of Baal-Peor. The people from there associated him with the orgies and other similar activities. The Israelites worshiped him under the form of a penis-shaped, phallic idol. In the Kabbalic mythology he caused paranoia in people, and it was very difficult to encounter him, as one needed to make sacrifice of human excrement. I’m serious. Later he changed hi strategy as he helped the people with numerous inventions and then used those persons when they became famous because of it. It is also said that he was the Hell’s ambassador in France. He appeared in Milton’s Paradise Lost where he is described as a very ugly demon.

Jikininki

The Jikininki come from the Japanese mythology and they represent the spirits of the people who have passed on. During their lifetime these persons were selfish, and did only bad deeds. They have been cursed to feed on the flesh of the human corpses, and they are in a state of self-loathing, and self-disgust because of it. They are very ugly and when the people see them they paralyze. They have the capacity of living as normal humans as they can take any form they want. They are very rare.

Lady Midday

Lady Midday is one of the “baddest” female demons. She comes from the Slavic mythology. It is said that she goes on the fields where the men are working and she asks them various questions. If they answer one of the questions incorrectly, then she will behead them. That’s it; one wrong answer and you are gone. No second chances, or anything similar. She appears only during the hottest days, and it is said that she causes heat strokes and heat sicknesses. She can take many forms, the most common being an attractive woman, and old lady, and a 12 year old girl.

Lamashtu

By far the most horrifying demon is Lamashtu, from the Sumerian and Mesopotamian mythology. It is said that she is a threat for the women before and after the pregnancy, as she attacks their babies. She would suck the blood of the infants and then eat their bones. She also likes to engage in pleasant activities such as infesting lakes, killing crops, spreading diseases and illnesses, affecting the sleep, sucking the blood from men, and so on. The worst part is that she does not have to answer to anyone, which makes her unique from this point of view.

Some scary stuff, right?11

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
