Take time to celebrate the end of winter with this guided meditation.

This meditative journey is one you can read ahead of time, and then recall as you meditate, or you can record yourself reading it aloud, and listen to it as a guided meditation later on. You can even read it aloud as part of a group ritual. The ideal place to perform this meditation is somewhere outside -- try to pick a day that's warm, or at the very least sunny. Go out in your garden, or sit under a tree in a park, or find a quiet spot near a stream.

Visualize yourself walking along a path. You are traveling through a forest, and as you walk, you notice that the trees are covered with the vibrant hues of autumn. There are reds, oranges, and yellows everywhere. A few leaves have fallen on the ground beside you, and the the air is cool and crisp. Stand for a moment, and take in the scent of fall.

As you continue down the path, you see the sky getting darker. The air has become more brisk, and the leaves are gently falling around you. Soon, the trees are bare, and there is a crunching sound beneath you. When you look down, the leaves are no longer bright with autumn's colors. Instead, they are brown and brittle, and there is a light touch of frost on them. Winter has arrived. Breathe deeply, so that you can smell and taste the difference in the air.

The darkness is full now, but above you there is a full moon lighting your way. A snowflake falls in front if you, drifting down ever so slowly. Soon another drifts down, and another. As you walk further, the snow begins to fall heavily. The crunch of your feet on the leaves is muffled, and soon you can't hear anything at all. A blanket of pure white snow covers the forest floor, and everything is quiet, and still. There is a sense of magic in the air -- a feeling of being in some other, special place. The real world has vanished with the sun, and all that remains now is you, and the darkness of winter. The snow glistens in the moonlight, and the night is cold. You can see your breath before you in the moonlit air.

As you continue through the forest, you begin to see a faint glimmer of light ahead. Unlike the silvery light of the moon, this is red and bright. You are beginning to get colder now, and the idea of warmth and light is promising. You walk on, and the red light draws closer. There is something special about it, something of relief and change and warmth.

You walk through the snow, up a steep path, and the snow is now up to your knees. It is becoming more difficult to travel, and you're cold. All you want, more than anything, is a warm fire, and some hot food, and the companionship of your loved ones. But it seems that there is nothing but you and the snow and the night. It seems as though the light has grown closer, and yet is still unreachable. Eventually, you give up -- there's no reaching it, and you just keep walking through the snow.

As you come over the hillside, though, something happens. The forest is no longer surrounding you -- in fact, there are only a few trees left on this side of the hill. Off in the distance, to the east, the sun is rising. You continue on the path, and the snow fades away. No longer are you walking through great drifts -- instead, you are on a muddy track, crossing an open field. In the meadow are tiny buds. Grass is peeking up from the dead, brown earth. Here and there, a cluster of bright flowers appears beside a stone, or beside the path. As you walk, the sun rises higher and higher, bright and orange in its glory. Its warmth embraces you, and soon your night of cold and darkness is forgotten.

Spring has come, and new life abounds. Flowers and vines are beginning to grow, and the earth is no longer dead and brown, but vibrant and fertile. As you walk in the sun's warmth, you realize that winter has truly left you, and that you are renewed and reborn once more.

Stand and bask in the light for a few minutes. Meditate on what sort of abundance you are looking forward to this season. Think about what you will plant in your own garden, and what new life you will bring forth.

Imbolc Meditation

Delving Into The Depths Of The Well

Our link to the Goddess becomes clearer as we are reminded of our sacred origin. From the mysterious depths of the womb, the quickening of new life is felt. Use this meditation to attune with the healing powers of water and its biological signifigance.

*A cobblestone path leads you up a gently sloping hill. The air is crisp and chilly. There are no clouds in the sky and the sun shines brightly. Even on a day as clear as this, the warmth of the sun is barely a match for the brisk February air.

*You are carrying a candle, and its light dances as the wind teases the fire. You cup the flame with your hand to protect it from the playful breeze. It gives you some precious warmth on this bright and cold day.

*You reach the top of the hill and your path ends. The stones that you followed convene in an elaborate spiral mosaic at the center of which lies the object of your destination, the sacred well of Brighid.

*The well is closed and you walk up to it, setting your candle down beside you. You look at the heavy lid, a thick and sturdy circular slab of wood adorned in metal with the vesica piscis, a sacred symbol of the Goddess: two circles joined in graceful harmony.

*You trace the intertwined circles with your fingers, running your hand along the cold iron. You can see ancient hammer marks from when the cover was forged centuries ago. The circles remind you of the cycle of creation. The sun. The moon. Infinity.

*You slide open the latch and with all your strength, you pull the great cover open. You are amazed to find a great proliferation of plant life pouring forth! Dense ferns and duckweed, nourished by the fresh waters, thrive and flourish.

*You kneel down and gaze at your own reflection among the plants. You peer at the image of your face; the reflection is dark and your features are barely discernible. You lean in closer. Your breath moves across the water's surface, creating gentle ripples. Your reflection oscillates in response.

*You lean closer still, touching your lips to the water's surface. It is surprisingly warm! In fact, the water seems to be the same temperature as that of your body. You lean farther, submerging your face. You exhale slowly, delighting as the bubbles move across your cheeks and through your hair.

*You submerge your entire head. You forget to breath. You don't need to. A great power is pulling you in. You do not lose your balance, but very slowly and deliberately, you slide headfirst into the inviting waters. The water permeates your body. Waves of pleasure and peace surround you. You drink in serenity and feel as if your soul is being restored. Invigorated, you somersault through the water and gaze upward. You see the light of the sun glimmering through the particles suspended in the water.

*You stroke the smooth stones that mark the sides of the well. It seems as if there is life in every tiny crevice. Aquiferous plants outline the stones with gentle shades of green. You turn upside down, wanting to explore deeper.

*You have become a water spirit, moving effortlessly down through the deep spring. Light begins to leave you as you descend. You move faster, traveling headfirst into the unknown, your body undulating as you go.

*You begin to feel the pull of a strong current, pulling you down, down, down. Even if you wanted to turn back now, you could not. The surface is far behind you and there is now a rushing sound in your ears. It grows louder and louder when suddenly you find yourself at the mouth of a great underground river. This is the source of the spring that feeds the well. It is easily ten times as wide.

*You move through the river and discover that many paths diverge from this point. You are at the point where three rivers meet. Far beneath the earth, vast networks of water flow with great force bringing precious nutrients to surrounding earth.

*You are a passenger on the mighty currents of the well's best-kept secret. The force of these swiftly moving waters is incredible. They sweep you along, the strength  of the current moving you and moving through you.

*The water permeates every pore of your body, healing all that it touches. With every hydrating caress, you are restored. Age and weariness turns to youth and vitality. Cuts and scrapes are mended. Internal organs are replenished. Scars disappear. Anything at all that has ever been wrong with you is now righted. Wounds of the past are healed. Emotional pain is replaced by a sense of oneness with all beings, peace, and serenity. Physical discomfort and pain diminishes to the point where it ceases to exist.

*You feel only relaxation and invigoration. Cells regenerate, your mind clears, and your body strengthens. You are perfect, whole and intact.

*Suddenly, you are in charge of your soul's journey once again. No longer swept along, your movement is now deliberate. You travel great distances underground,  hurtling and swimming through the darkness with joy.

*Eventually, you begin to see light again. The mouth of the river gapes and you tumble head over heels into the ocean. You float to the surface, the sudden salinity effortlessly bearing you up. The sun touches your face. You open your mouth and gulp great gasps of fresh ocean air.

*You are carried by the waves to a sandy shore. Gently, the waves deposit you on the pristine beach, lapping over you and then retreating to the sea. You feel totally renewed, cleansed by the freshness of the spring and purified by the salt of the sea.

*You have been to the meeting of the waters and experienced the deep mysteries that lie far beneath the surface of the earth. You marvel at your journey, feeling for the first time that you have an awareness and sense of your own conception, that of traveling through a long tube of darkness to a vast and watery womb to be reborn anew as a perfect being.

*You are reminded of the interconnectedness of all things, how the forces of nature mirror the functions of the human form, and know that beneath your feet,  the awesome healing power of the Goddess courses through the earth. And that this awesome healing power also flows through you.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
