The Sarasota Medieval Fair!

Thank you for your interest in the 2007 Sarasota Medieval Fair. The goal of the Sarasota Medieval Fair is to give accurate historical information to educate our patrons through interactive, immerse family entertainment.

As we plan for our third season, we are excited to promise much more for an even bigger 2007 festival. Last year, the second annual 2006 festival featured international performers, including: Puke’n Snot, Hack & Slash, Fushu Daiko, Ded Bob, Aerial Angels and much more! The festival more than doubled in attendance each year since our opening in 2005, and we are looking forward to out-doing all expectations by triple our attendance for 2007. Join in the fun, as we continue to expand upon a new horizon!

We welcome your craft application and product information for consideration to join the Sarasota Medieval Fair.

1. We are a juried show. Elaborate Tents and Merchandise have an upper-hand in the Jury Process. Craft products must be made with materials that existed in the 11th Century. We highly discourage imported or mass produced products. We highly encourage products that are traditional or original in design, function appropriately, are guaranteed by there makers, are well made, and durable.

2. Tents must be Open, Decorated appropriately, and occupied by personal dressed in Medieval/Renaissance Costume at all times during Fair operating hours (10:00am~5:30pm, November 10-11 & 17-18, 2007), Rain or Shine. Tents must set up and be ready by 9:00am on Saturday & Sunday, November 10-11 & 17-18, 2007. Tents not set up by 9:00am may be prohibited from participating and will forfeit all fees. Vendors are responsible for setting up their booths, including medieval design and decorations, signs, and tables. Your Tent, and complete set-up must fit within the measurements you requested and/or paid for.

Please complete the Vendor Application enclosed, and return to the address below, along with at least two photos/slides of your work and one of your booth/tent set-up (If you have a website, you may include the web address in exchange of sending photographs; website must have pictures of your work and booth/tent set-up).

NOTICE: Returning vendors, who submitted photos/slides, do not have to submit photos/slides again.

Applications must be received by OCTOBER 18, 2007.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
