Jun 26, 1541:
Conqueror of the Incas assassinated
Francisco Pizarro, the governor of Peru and conqueror of the Inca civilization, is assassinated in Lima by Spanish rivals.
The illegitimate son of a Spanish gentleman, Pizarro served under Spanish conquistador Alonso de Ojeda during his expedition to Colombia in 1510 and was with Vasco Nunez de Balboa when he discovered the Pacific Ocean in 1513. Hearing legends of the great wealth of the Incas in South America, Pizarro formed an alliance with fellow conquistador Diego de Almagro in 1524 and sailed back to the Americas. Their first expedition only penetrated as far as present-day Ecuador, but their second reached farther and discovered evidence of the existence of the Inca kingdom.
Securing aid from Emperor Charles V, and a guarantee that he, not Almagro, would receive the majority of the expedition's future profits, Pizarro sailed to Peru and landed at Tumbes in 1532. He led his army up the Andes Mountains to the Inca city of Cajamarca and met with Atahualpa, the king of the Inca kingdom of Quito. After winning his trust, Pizarro captured Atahualpa, exacted a room full of gold as ransom for his life, and then treacherously had him executed. The conquest of Peru came quickly to Pizarro and his army, and in 1533 Inca resistance came to an end with their defeat at Cuzco.
Pizarro, now the governor of Peru, founded new settlements, including Lima, and granted Almagro the conquest of Chile as appeasement for claiming the riches of the Inca civilization for himself. However, Pizarro failed to provide Almagro with all the land he had promised, and Almagro responded by seizing Cuzco in 1538. Pizarro sent his half brother, Hernando, to reclaim the city, and Almagro was defeated and put to death. Three years later, on June 26, 1541, a group hired by Almagro's former adherents penetrated Pizarro's palace and slew the conquistador while he was eating dinner. Shortly after his death, Diego el Monzo, Almagro's son, proclaimed himself governor of Peru.
ARIES (March 21-April 19): You make your actions speak for you so make them carefully but forcefully. Don't waste time and energy playing around; get right to the heart of an issue and address it once and for all.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): It's very important that you strive for integrity today. You can either become aware of ways you are hypocritical or your double-standards are glaringly obvious to others. Try to be honest and consistent.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You're apt to try for success beyond your immediate grasp. However, it's important to dream ahead in order to have goals for success. You can't have it right now but you can start planning how to achieve it.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You have an important thing to say today. You need to be as well prepared as possible. Script your speech carefully and worry about the impact of each word. A lot rides on what you say and how you say it.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You're prone to ask too many favors, or favors of the wrong type today. You must demonstrate that you've done everything possible, not just to claim it but for real. Test how self-reliant you can be and don't act helpless.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): You're sensitive to both living up to expectations as well as being told what to do. The former is necessary, the latter is offensive but they come mixed in ways that are hard to sort out.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): You are effective when you are promoting an idea or agenda you truly believe in. By word or by deed, you move it forward. You can be very convincing when your arguments are both sincere and address the facts.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): A lot of self-discipline goes out the window today. It's hard to focus on anything serious. A lot of grandiose plans are simply unrealizable but you have a hard time seeing that. Ideals must be made practical.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Success is being held back by not networking with enough of the right people. Examine your methods with an eye toward what has been too optimistic or too unrealistic, and change accordingly.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): It's important to take time explaining the rules and the reasons behind them. Procedures have been developed for a purpose and this must be laid out. Resist the tendency to just give orders. They must make sense for better execution.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): While income can be good, you are prone to excessive spending. You need to clarify financial goals. If you stop and think, you really need them. You don't need all the things you can afford.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): You want to be successful but you can be aware of how much you are dependent on others. This can be good for intelligently organizing cooperative ventures. However, you can also become aware of ways you need to be more self-reliant.
"We are called hollow bones for our people and for anyone else we can help, and we are not supposed to seek power for our personal use and honor." |
-- Fools Crow, LAKOTA |
In order for us to use our power well, we must become a hollow bone. We must prepare ourselves to become a channel. Our channel must be clean before we can use our power well. We must be free of resentments, guilt, shame, anger, self pity, and fear. If these things are in us, we cannot be hollow bones. These things block us from our power. The cleaner we are, the more power we move. We must become a hollow bone so the Creator can use us to do what he wants us to do. |
My Creator, remove from me today all resentment, anger, fear, guilt and selfishness. Do not let my weaknesses stand in the way of my usefulness to You. Make me a hollow bone so Your power can flow through me
ARIES (March 21-April 19): Deep and important changes are under way. Some are taking the lead in forcing reform now. Those being affected by events have an excellent chance to use this opportunity to start making a living doing what truly makes them happy and vibrant.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You become aware of the big gaps between the ideal of social justice and the reality of institutional fraud; between the need for reform and your relative lack of contribution. Start with yourself first before taking on the world.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Security of investments and your personal future feel like it's coming apart. You must be actively engaged to keep the inevitable changes under control. Don't let wild chance create a future you do not want.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You're prone to behave wildly now. Pressures may be getting to you. It's important that you connect with people and institutions who can help guide you through your time of troubles. Negative situations require positive solutions, not desperation.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You are conflicted between the urge to rebel versus your responsibilities. All of your choices must be guided by morality and natural law. Avoid taking extreme actions that harm others.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Important financial information comes your way. It may be bad news but the knowledge could be turned to advantage if you're willing to entirely change the way you've been handling your money.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): You're attracted to someone who promises the ability to make change. The best change is inner change but. if you want to become activist, learn what the plan is. Evaluate it carefully.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You may be waiting for change but you need to initiate it yourself. That way, you can ensure it's the transformation you desire or compatible with it rather than a wild force with bad consequences for you.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You should give intense thought to your true life's work. You're at a time when doing what makes you happy is better than working unhappily for survival. Seek vocational guidance.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): The need for general change is dawning full force in you. You look at social alternatives; you're very keen on implementing them into the way you live your life. Radical solutions are appealing.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Your personal convictions are emphasized today, mostly by contrast with prevailing conditions. You can see that things are not right, and you need to listen to your conscience about what's best for you and society.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): You have reasons to think about ways of becoming financially independent. Take responsibility for your income and your savings. Institutions that are not helping your interests should be abandoned in favor of those more agreeable.
"Believing people can soar beyond ordinary life." |
-- Fools Crow, LAKOTA |
We are created by God to be vision people. First we set the goal and then we see. If we create within ourselves a picture or vision and we hold that picture or vision in our mind, whatever we picture will show up in our reality. If we can see ourselves being educated, then schools and teachers will show up in our lives. If we picture in our mind a positive, spiritual person to be in our lives, we will attract this type of person in our relationships. How big can our dreams be? |
Great Spirit, let my visions today be Your vision. Put within me a vision of the being you would have me be. Then help me to keep the vision in my mind
Jun 24, 1675:
King Philip's War begins
In colonial New England, King Philip's War begins when a band of Wampanoag warriors raid the border settlement of Swansee, Massachusetts, and massacre the English colonists there.
In the early 1670s, 50 years of peace between the Plymouth colony and the local Wampanoag Indians began to deteriorate when the rapidly expanding settlement forced land sales on the tribe. Reacting to increasing Native American hostility, the English met with King Philip, chief of the Wampanoag, and demanded that his forces surrender their arms. The Wampanoag did so, but in 1675 a Christian Native American who had been acting as an informer to the English was murdered, and three Wampanoag were tried and executed for the crime.
King Philip responded by ordering the attack on Swansee on June 24, which set off a series of Wampanoag raids in which several settlements were destroyed and scores of colonists massacred. The colonists retaliated by destroying a number of Indian villages. The destruction of a Narragansett village by the English brought the Narragansett into the conflict on the side of King Philip, and within a few months several other tribes and all the New England colonies were involved. In early 1676, the Narragansett were defeated and their chief killed, while the Wampanoag and their other allies were gradually subdued. King Philip's wife and son were captured, and on August 12, 1676, after his secret headquarters in Mount Hope, Rhode Island, was discovered, Philip was assassinated by a Native American in the service of the English. The English drew and quartered Philip's body and publicly displayed his head on a stake in Plymouth.
King Philip's War, which was extremely costly to the colonists of southern New England, ended the Native American presence in the region and inaugurated a period of unimpeded colonial expansion.
ARIES (March 21-April 19): A relationship can suffer today. Affection cools off; some may feel doubt or jealousy. It's important to keep events in perspective and to continue making the best of the situation. It may not be as bad s you think.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Keep tight control of your daydreams today. You're liable to substitute that for real action instead of using it for examining possibilities. This can be a fruitful day for those who know how to practice creative visualization.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Some relationships feel like a burden today. At the very least, the responsibilities are more apparent than the love. Discipline becomes an issue and you shouldn't be afraid to apply it when necessary.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You are enthusiastic and idealistic. You seek out ways to implement them and make them real. However, beware of those who are on the lookout for just such naive do-gooders as yourself, for their own agenda.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You benefit by remembering past mistakes and not repeating them. Exercise great care in how you express yourself. You should appear more reserved, not less, because too much openness can be embarrassing.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): People need your helpfulness more than they need your personality. You can be at the right place at the right time to make things go well. Trying to control people and situations, however, will fail.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): You don't do well in a debate. Even if you're right, someone can still make you look wrong. Control the circumstances of a conversation, have well-prepared notes available. Have the luxury of checking facts and having resources.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Your imagination must be balanced with information. When questions arise, find out the facts. It's very easy to spin out impossibilities that could have been rejected had you known what you should.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You feel you have to take control of a situation now. A partnership needs firm direction. Your goals need a plan of action. It's important to get emotionally in touch with what's very important to you.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): You like to spend today getting to know people and expanding your contacts. You want to understand people's aspirations, either because your own are uppermost in your mind or you are trying to define them.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You endeavor to reach an understanding with people today. Relationships need to be put on a fair basis. You're sensitive to inequities and to differences of opinion. A sound relationship makes you feel secure.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Your idealism can make you feel you can't fail. However, being right isn't a guarantee of success or acceptance. You need to look at the practical issues and at people's real motives. Adjust your approach accordingly.
"He [Wakan Tanka] walks with us along the pathways of Life, and He can do for us what we could never do on our own." |
-- Fools Crow, LAKOTA |
With the Creator in our lives, we are everything. Without the Creator, we are nothing. When the Creator is in our life, suddenly the impossible becomes possible. The extraordinary becomes ordinary. Things we thought could never happen start to happen. Talents we never know we had, start to blossom. Resources appear. Help arrives to give us guidance and direction. We become happy. We have peace of mind and confidence. |
Oh Great Spirit, today I want You in my life. The days that I know You are with me are the days that are perfect. Let me be joyful today
ARIES (March 21-April 19): Sensitive to how people are behaving, you're apt to overreact. You jump to conclusions, which are usually wrong today. Let the facts come out explicitly. Stop second-guessing what people are about to do.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You have trouble applying your imagination and creativity to a practical or a settled project. You must discipline your focus and determination so that by the end of the day, you will have an accomplishment to point to.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You see a reduction in tension today. Relationships are unusually pleasant. Agreement comes easily. Many barriers to success disappear now so make the most of it while this lasts.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): You don't have a clear understanding of what you have to offer compared to what is in demand. Your actions seem out of kilter to others and you may indeed need to de-emphasize individuality in favor of useful service.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You have trouble taking a disciplined approach to learning. You want to hop, skip and jump around as you see fit. You need to introduce at least a small amount of good research practice so you don't lose valuable references.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Your personal preferences need to take second place to your roles at works and at home. You'd rather let people be but you need to enforce discipline and keep people on track. Your style, however, can still be pleasant and inspiring.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Rifts can develop between you and a partner. There are disagreements, perhaps based in politics. It may be that you are growing apart from people as your views develop, opening the way for different associates.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You're prone to react instinctively and without forethought. The consequences can be unsettling, if not distressing. Stop and think things through. Give time over to studying and understanding before acting.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You're extremely sociable and agreeable today. You may have trouble saying no to people, setting you up for being taken advantage of. You tend to appeal to emotions, so you have to watch out for manipulating people.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): You're prone to feel your contributions are more than they really are. You may think you're above the rules or the law but this can get you into trouble. Understand the consequences to yourself for your actions.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): This is a day ripe with romantic possibilities. It's a good day for taking an important relationship one step further. You generally prize being on good terms with everyone and you may try to mediate disputes.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Don't be afraid to make your needs, desires and opinions widely known. It's likely there are many others who feel the same way. Start communicating among each other; you may be able to take collective action.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.
Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.
Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
