Magickal Uses of Valerian
It is believed that this plant has the properties to turn bad into good; turning a bad situation into a positive one.
Useful in Samhain and Yule celebration rituals.
Valerian's magickal reputation shows it to be useable for the Dark Arts as well as good. It can be burned in Incense for curses and hexes.
To counter this, if added to Uncrossing Incense in can destroy such dark spellcraft when burned with a yellow candle.
It can be used alone for aiming both white and dark magick at individuals or articles.
Also useful in animal magic; cat magic and the evocation of animal spirits.
Valerian is used for sympathetic magick.
An example being that if placed in the vicinity of disagreement, it can aid calm and rationalisation.
Said to be useful in spells related putting an end to guilt, negative feelings and for the development of self acceptance.
Valerian has magickal powers which can be used for love, sleep, purification and protection -
It has many uses in love magick.
It can be used, placed about a home to protect against lightning.
In powered form, it can be a substitute for "graveyard dust".
In medieval Sweden, to ward off the 'envy' of elves, it was placed in the groom's wedding attire.
As a feminine plant, Valerian is associated with Venus but has also been linked to Jupiter. Its element is Water.
Medicinal and Healing Uses of Valerian
The amino acid Valine is named after this plant.
Valerian has been employed as a medicinal herb back to the time of ancient Greece and Rome and no doubt, prior to that.
Hippocrates described its properties. Galen later thought it to be as a remedy for insomnia.
Valerian is used for insomnia, other sleeping disorders and restlessness.
It is also used against anxiety and as a muscle relaxant.
One study found that Valerian tends to stimulate a fatigued person.
Valerian is thought to be useful in treating gastro-intestinal pain and irritable bowel.
In the United States Valerian is marketed as a nutritional supplement.
Do not use very hot or boiling water to make Valerian tea, as this drives off the lighter oil blend.
Other Uses of Valerian
Valerian was used as a perfume in the sixteenth century.
As Cats love its smell, it is used inside cat toys.
Care When Using Valerian as A Herbal Remedy
Although Few adverse events attributable to Valerian, it has suspected to cause agitation, headaches and night terrors in some individuals, perhaps due to the fact that some people lack a digestive ability to effectively break down the compounds.
Large doses or chronic use may result in stomach ache.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
