TREATMENT FOR INTERNAL POISONING;

  1. Below is a list of treatments, in order of priority, for internal poisoning resulting from eating the toxic parts of the poisonous plants described  here.

  2. If the person is conscious, have him drink large quantities of liquid. This serves to dilute the toxicity of the poison,  and should be done as quickly as possible after the poisoning.

  3. If the person is conscious, induce vomiting by sticking a finger down the throat. This procedure should immediately follow the drinking of liquids, as it is designed to expel the now diluted toxins from the digestive  system.

  4. Repeat the above two steps several times, first inducing liquids, then vomiting, in order to expel as much of the toxins from the system as possible.

  5. After a thorough repetition of the liquid -vomit cycle, recheck the discussion of the plant and its toxins. Indicated for treating some plant poisonings is the ingestion of  tannin ( tannic  acid) or charcoal (activated).  In these cases, a few cups of the tannic acid  solution , or a few tablespoons of the powdered charcoal, should be sufficient. Tannin acts as an astringent in the digestive system, which in a sense slows down the digestive processes, thus limiting when desirable the release of toxins in to the lower intestines and the blood. Tannic acid solution can be produced by boiling the bark of the blackberry (Rubus), dock root (Rumex), or the haws of the Hawthorne (Crataegus) in water, straining the water through cloth, and  drinking the "tea.' Powdered activated charcoal, which  absorbs certain toxins, can be obtained by pulverizing the charcoal found in your fire pit.

  6. keep the person comfortable. Keep him/ her  drinking more liuqids tan usual. Treat symptoms as they occur. Increase the intake of Vitamin C. This vitamin is believed to be effective in carrying toxins from the blood stream, ultimately dispelling them into the urine. Vitamin C can be obtained from the hips of the wild rose , from pine needles (Pinus), and from the leaves of the ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea). These plant parts can be mashed, boiled and strained through cloth to produce a "tea".

If the patient is unconscious, do not attempt to induce liquids or vomiting. Keep the person warm and watch for signs of respiratory failure. Mouth-to- month artificial respiration is the most effective, and can be rendered at any time should the person need it, first making certain that the mouth and throat are clear of obstructions.

If medical help is anticipated, preserve a sample of the offending plant for positive identification.

Time is an essential factor In  many cases of internal poisoning. The person generally can expect to survive the poisoning, but to feel sick for while. Care  should be taken not to alarm or excite the person unduly about the prospects of survival, and supportive treatment should be continued until after the person feels well.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
