Celebrating our 4th Annual Pagan Pride Day!

The History of Pagan Pride Detroit

 Pagan Pride Detroit

Pagan Pride in Detroit is not something new, this current organization picked up in the footsteps of other proud pagans who had previously served our area with great Pagan Pride. In 2007, misfortunate led to the cancellation of Pagan Pride Day for the year. Out of those ashes arose the current board of proud pagans continuing that fine line of volunteers supporting the Greater Detroit Area.

Since then, we have increased our efforts in collecting food goods for local pagan friendly food banks, raised hundreds of dollars for animal shelters, supported charity fund drives for the Katrina victims, as well as collected cell phones, printer cartridges and gently used prescription glasses.

Pagan Pride Detroit is a 501 (c)3 educational organization. We are registered with the great of State of Michigan and get our 501(c)3 status from the Pagan Pride Project.  Donations to our events and organization are tax-deductible.

Many people have volunteered their time and resources to make this organization possible. It is with their continued support and through the financial support of businesses, groups and individuals like yourself that Pagan Pride Detroit can continue to grow and support the Greater Detroit Community.

Please visit our Get Involved section for information on how you and your organization can help.

Pagan Pride Detroit is the Greater Detroit chapter of the Pagan Pride Project, a global non-profit dedicated to the elimination of prejudice and religious discrimination.  Our primary mission is to foster pride in Greater Detroit’s Pagan identity through education, activism, charity and community.  We do this through three major offerings. Our most important event Pagan Pride Day is an autumnal celebration open to the general public. Our Annual fund raiser the PPD Elf Auction in June and our newest out-reach Inter-faith project allows PPD to grow and respond to the increasing needs of the diverse Greater Detroit Pagan Community.

Every year Pagan Pride Detroit has a theme; some themes such as Service before Status have stayed on as our mantras of success. 2011 is no different, pulling from our past, keeping in line with our core beliefs and our new Interfaith Council, 2011 will be the year we leave no one behind. Outreach and Community will be our focus.

In 2011 - There can be no Community without You!  We will highlight local groups and organizations that dedicate their time helping people find and work their individual paths.  Visit our Get Involved page for ways you can help.  Be the change you want to see in the world!

What can you do to make sure that no person in need of community and uplifting goes without in the Greater Detroit Area?  Find out here!

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
