First off I would like to say hello to everyone.  I practice the art of Conjure or otherwise known as Hoodoo.  The practice of Hoodoo has a whole different view on the world than what I have been reading here.  We are called two-headed doctors.  Meaning that we travel down the right and left path.  Whatever is necessary.  Like an eye for an eye.  If someone messes with us we strike back.  We even have an herbal formula to kill another.  It's called Goofer Dust.  When work like this is done we just see ourselves as doing the will of the Gods and spirits that we work with.  I personally work with the Lwa, saints, ancestor spirits and of course the spirits of the dead.  It's the practice you will find in the south. Like New Orleans.  Hoodoo is not a religion, just a magic system.  One glaring difference I see on these posts is that everyone uses Cunningham and for whatever reason the southern herbals vary quite a bit on the use of some of the herbs in Cunningham's work, but many are similar or the same to a degree.  My purpose is to post some Hoodoo recipes and let you guys compare the differences and hear feed back as to why you think this is.  Have you ever thought were the knowledge of what plants to use for a situation comes from? How this knowledge was obtained? We are taught from the ought set how our herbal info. was obtained and how to connect with the spirits of plants. We are well versed in The Doctrine of Signatures.  In my opinion a vital text to any serious herbalist.  I have learned a lot from reading your posts and have written down some to try out.  Mostly the formulas that contain indigenous plants of Europe.  Our herbals are mainly plants that grow in the southern U.S. and a few that are from Africa.  Well enough of this for now....I get to talking and.....lol.  (Formula listed below)

Okay, here is the first Hoodoo formula.  It is a variation of an old Conjure formula from the 1800's called Cleo May.  It is a variation for our modern times.  Cleo May was used mainly in New Orleans in the Red Light District by working girls.  It was used to draw men and money while they were working.  Back then prostitution was legal in that great city.  This variation was made years ago.  It is used by women who want to draw a sugar daddy and is mainly used by exotic dancers.  They use it to draw customers to the bar who have cash and will pay their rent and what not...become their sugar daddy.  A dancer I know says it works every time.  She claims that it worked on the rapper Mystikal.  I'll list the Hoodoo purpose of the herb in (  ) so you can see the difference in Cunningham's work, if any.  Note that these are just one purpose for the herbs listed below.  The herbs can be used for several other reasons as I'm sure you know.

Topless Triple Double

Orris Root (attracts males)
Allspice (opens the flow of communication)
Calamus Root (Control over situation)
Lemon Grass (Satisfying sexual encounter)
Cinnamon Bark (Money and protection)
3 drops of Cypress Oil (attracts wealth)

*Clean a glass bottle. Put your intent into the bottle first. Add the dry ingredients which are powdered. Pour carrier oil over dry ingredients and add three drops of Cypress oil. Shake daily for a week. Let rest for a lunar month in a cool place. Strain out the oil from the sediment.  Bottle in tinted glass, label and store.

I hope I never get hit with that...NASTY....I guess you gotta have money for it to work on you though. LOL
If you look at the formula you will see a classic Hoodoo formula.  It is morally ambiguous.  And I mean "classic" in the sense of it's construction and purpose.

Lets break it down:
It's juju programed for males, it allows the woman to say what you want to hear, she'll know what that is intuitively, but mainly sexual and sensual things, this kinda talk attacks your psyche- Work it girl, lol-  you will be bewitched by her, your going to have sex with her (the hook), {when making an oil formula always start with the hook and build the "story" of the oil around that hook} and it's going to attract guys with cash flow, this is where the money herbs attack, and not just any guy with money, mellow ones, but if  the guy is aggressive it will render him docile and make them susceptible to the wyles of women, that's where the protection and control herbs come in.  Brilliant formula!!

This break it down part is VITAL to making an effective formula.  It allows you to tailor it for EXACTLY what you need it for.  The same applies to when you construct spells.  Above in the formula instructions it tells you to speak the intent into the bottle.  I speak the intent over the herbs as well with a candle of the correct color burning that matches the overall intent of the oil.  I speak the intent exactly like I wrote the "break it down" above. It sounds like a story and as you say it your visualization is in overdrive.  This is going to program the spirits of the different herbs and roots, otherwise you are just throwing herbs and roots into some oil.  You MUST program the spirits of the roots and herbs so they know what to do. If you look at every herbal ever written all herbs have multiple purposes that that plant's spirit can do.  The spirits have to know what function you will of them. The spirits then act together as a team to accomplish the purpose of your oil.  Once I construct the oil I allow the candle to burn completely.  And leave an offering to the spirits thanking them in advance.  In advance because I KNOW they will infuse the essence that I want into the oil.  They have no choice...that's why types of magic were created..it works! If you do it right.

This is Hoodoo, pure and simple. And it is powerful, powerful magic! Let me know what you think.  I would love to hear your opinions.

May the spirits bless you in all your endeavors.

Thank you for posting this. It is a very helpful perspective on programming and formulating herbs.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
