Reading Playing Cards --- The Gypsy Method

Both the reader and the auditor meditate for a few minutes and prayerfully and silently ask the Gods for a true revelation or reading.

For maximum effectiveness, the auditor must give the reader something of value to the Gods’ work before the reading begins.  The metal of the Craft is silver --- therefore, technically, this should be a piece of silver.  Remember the old Gypsy’s . . . “Cross my palm with a piece of silver.”

The auditor then shuffles a specially prepared deck of ordinary playing cards.  The end of each card is marked so as to readily tell if it is reversed.  When the auditor feels the urge to stop, he must lay the cards down immediately.  If he goes past this point, the reading is lost.

The auditor then cuts the cards with his left hand once, placing the bottom portion on the top.

The reader then picks the cards up --- carefully, so as not to reverse the deck --- the part of the deck facing away from the auditor must stay in that position.  The reader deals the cards --- beginning at the bottom of the table nearest himself and the auditor.  He lays down seven cards in a row, running from left to right.  This row represents the past, which is laid as a basis for the present.

The reader then lays down the next seven cards in a row immediately above the first row --- again running from left to right.  This row pertains to the present, which is the basis for the future.

The reader then lays down the next seven cards --- designating the future --- in a row running left to right immediately above the other two rows.  The rows are read one at a time starting with the left hand card in the bottom, or “past,” row, then reading across to the right.  The last card in the “past” row --- the far right hand card --- ties in with the first, or left hand card, of the “present” row.  Likewise, the last card in the present row will tie in, and be read with, the first card of the “future” row.

Special Rules for Reading Cards ---

In the following instructions, a code is used to save writing.  This code is rather self-explanatory.

In the reading, check for special meanings, then combinations, then specific card meanings before trying to make sense of the message --- remember, watch for reversed cards!

When reading, if you get an urge to say something in a certain way, do it!  This is one of the Gods speaking through you in many cases in order to give a more detailed message to your auditor.  Or it may be something which your superconscious mind is picking up from some other mind, but in any case, say it!

Married people represent partners as opposite of the same suit.  A Queen of Spades will represent her husband as the King of Diamonds if they are the usual married couple --- as the King of Hearts if they are very close or on their honeymoon.  Warning --- she will always refer to her lover as the King of Hearts.  She will then refer to herself as the Queen of the same suit.

A man always refers to his youth or younger days with the Jack of his own suit.  His boyhood friend then becomes another Jack.

A card can only be part of one combination or special meaning.

Time units or indicators are the smaller numbered Diamonds --- not part of some other combination.

A face card between any pair threaten jail for that person.

A King of Diamonds is always used to designate a military man.

Application

If you want to specialize in card readings, you must memorize the card meanings in this lesson thoroughly prior to attempting to work with the public for money.  The Craft student who does not intend to specialize --- who will probably be working with another student or his own relatives --- may use these notes and make a passable reading.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
