quiet here. We have had our ups and downs. Hasn't everyone? A busy time, indeed. It is high
time I update you and our other customers.
For those who have not heard, we added a couple of new texts to our catalog. Our latest
titles are Heathenism for Adults and Heathenism for Thinkers. More will be coming, hopefully
by winter.
Our current project continues along the lines I had described in our Daily Lessons.
Audrey and I are examining science and its ramifications for Heathenism. We find that scientific
discoveries are opening up new fields for spiritual research. Things like particle physics, black
holes and dark matter are answering old questions and raising new ones about both the physical
and spiritual aspects of our Universe.
Through starting this project, I came to understand the gaps in my own scientific
knowledge. It had been 35 years since I took a course in science. There was a lot of catching-up
to do. Advances in science made it necessary for me to take a few science courses. As good as
the science shows on cable may be, they did not prepare me for this. The shows barely scratch the
surface. There was so much amazing, new information that I had to change my plans for the
project. New information means it is taking longer but the end results will be worth all of the
effort.
We find ourselves asking new questions. For instance, is the black hole of astronomy
related to the Perdra Rune, and is its Event Horizon a matter of Perdra or the Yew Tree Rune? Is
the expansive nature of the dark energy posited by astronomers connected to the same expansive
principle attributed to Thor? Though the Theory of Relativity is a matter of the Raido Rune -
Time and Space - how is it connected to the Naud and Jer Runes? These are just some of the
questions that have arisen lately. We are having a fascinating time seeking the answers.
And that brings up another point. By examining our physical world through reason rather
than superstition, science has made tremendous strides. What if we examined matters of religion
and spirituality through reason, as well? Audrey and I have been doing just that. The results are
promising. We have covered some of the rational approach in Heathenism for Thinkers. More
will be forthcoming as we continue our work.

Autumn is upon us and I am grateful for it. Summer in our region has been entirely too hot this
year. Our Heathen friends will be preparing for Summer's Ending / Winter's Beginning and
Pagan friends will be getting ready for Samhain. Autumn is a season when we get down to
business. I hope that your Autumn is a pleasant and prosperous one.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
