Event Description

The Enchanted Lakes Community Organization has decided to move its location for the Enchanted Lakes Renaissance Faire & Marketplace to the Steuben County Park, also known as the Steuben County 4H Fairgrounds at 100 LN 101 Crooked Lake, Angola, Indiana. The faire's successful inaugural year in 2011 led to the move which was necessary for the its' continued growth. Plans continue on the 2012 faire, and the Enchanted Lakes Community Organization looks forward to working with the Steuben County Parks Department in this venture. The Enchanted Lakes Renaissance Faire is currently the largest renaissance faire in Northern Indiana. We are grateful to Carl Unger at Buck Lake Ranch for allowing us a venue for the faire in 2011 and wish him well and wish Buck Lake Ranch continued growth for the future. Jousting will return this year at the Enchanted Lakes Faire and the venue will be the new location's outdoor arena with bleachers. Buildings on site will offer merchants as well as patrons shelter from weather. Its location on Crooked Lake offers guests the ability to take a break from faire and enjoy one of Steuben County's larger lakes. The Enchanted Lakes Renaissance Faire & Markeplace

The Enchanted Lakes Renaissance Faire and Marketplace is the brainchild of Maria Davis and Kim Bordner, the result of a smart aleck comment in 2010 that grew and grew.

The inaugural faire in 2011 was held at the historic Buck Lake Ranch. Through the hard work of several volunteers, this faire was a huge success. In August of 2011, Enchanted Lakes Community Organization Inc.(ELCO), an Indiana not for Profit Corporation, was formed to benefit the City of Angola and Steuben County with the proceeds from the faire’s activities.

The faire was moved to the Steuben County (4-H) Park in 2012 and it remains there. The location is more conducive to creating the atmosphere of the faire. ELCO donated $1000 in new chairs to the park after the 2012 faire.

Enchanted Lakes Renaissance Faire, or ELF as it is more commonly known, is the largest renaissance faire in Northern Indiana and is the only Indiana faire to feature a full armored joust. Paragon Jousting has brought their Adventure Theater to Angola for the full run of the faire.

According to
Einar Severinson
Looks like Enchanted Lakes is a go! Our efforts ARE appreciated by the folks in charge down there, and they are providing a monetary stipend to the group this year. Mark your calendars: June 15 (optional), 16, 17. Setup begins late morning Friday and tear-down will hopefully be accomplished Sunday night -- this is as important as setup, if you think about it. We'll discuss when Olaf gets back from the tropics.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
