On my main page I have some things that are, as of yet, unfinished and can become what you want them to be! Come take a look at my main profile pictures!
http://travelingwithintheworld.ning.com/group/valhallasanvil/forum/... So I would like to make leather hats for events this year, but I need some hat orders so I can afford the leather and supplies. Any interest? Let me know what kind of hat you are looking for! I can do tooling, custom made conchos and/or hatpins! The hat shown here is a cavalier style or can be a tricorn if I flip the brim. They are made of 3/4 oz leather which is a little thicker then most hats. They start at $135.00 for plain+ shipping.http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/valhallasanvil/3140512...
So I am back from Pennsic War. The only things I was able to sell were leather scraps... I was put in a new spot where nobody could find me until I piled my scraps out front really cheep. So pretty much I need to sell everything I own to get caught up with bills and get a vehicle and enclosed trailer that can get me back and forth to events. Preferably one that I don't need to dump money into to fix up.
But... I did learn some new techniques and although I do not have the ability to weld I can now braze in my forge. I also designed new collapsible tent stake pullers. One pattern is three sectional and folds down to about 8-9" and the other is telescopic and the two pieces closed measure around 12-14". I was only able to make 3 during war due to my business partner having to stay home and watch my dog, but even at $70 each the people that wanted them didn't flinch at the price!
I also carved my own form for doming Viking turtle brooches out of a piece of oak block I had laying around. So now I can make fully domed turtle brooches!!!
I will get pictures up of my works as I can. I was not able to take pics of my new stake pullers because they sold as fast as I could make them. So as soon as I can afford more propane for my forge I will make another and get pics up of it!
I am now going on 9 months of being behind on house payments. The vehicle I use to get back and forth to events now is making me nervous just to go 10 minutes from the house...my last event of the year was cancelled on me and the VA wants me to get an operation that could take me 3 months to heal from, if it doesn't make things worse...but from my pain comes your benefit...I have revamped my Etsy site. In order to catch up on bills and be able to get the supplies I need to keep making the things I love to make, I am having a sale on the things that I have or can finish. I have broken up sets of brooches and other things so that people can get single pieces for gifts or sets. Everything is on sale until the end of the year and more will be added as I can!
The Strophalos, or Hecate’s wheel is an ancient Greek symbol, and is an emblem of the initiatory lunar Goddess Hecate (Diana Lucifera), and her triple aspect. Only one ancient source remains to shed any light on the emblem’s meaning.
The second century Alexandrian text known as the Chaldean oracle describes the emblem as a labyrinthine serpent (emblematic of rebirth) surrounding a spiral, symbolic of the Iynges- “whirlings” or emanations of divine thought. Today, it is generally used by practitioners of Hellenic Recon or Dianic Traditions of Wicca as an emblem of religious identification. Other emblems of Hecate include torches, dogs (generally female), keys, serpents, and of course, the crossroads.
(Pictured: Snake-witch (Ormhäxan) stone, Gotland, Sweden. Now in Fornsalen museum, Visby.)
The Snake-witch (Ormhäxan), Snake-charmer (Ormtjuserskan) or Smiss stone (Smisstenen) is a picture stone found at Smiss, När parish, Gotland, Sweden. Discovered in a cemetery, it measures 82 cm (32 in) in height and depicts a figure holding a snake in each hand. Above the figure there are three interlaced creatures (forming a triskelion pattern) that have been identified as a boar, an eagle, and a wolf. The stone has been dated to 400–600 AD.
Although many scholars call it the Snake-witch,[4] what the stone depicts—an accurate interpretation of the figures—and whether it derives from Celtic art or Norse art remain debated.
