I am Black Angus! I used to travel to shows and events with Drago. I am a Blacksmith, Jeweler and Leather Worker. I create things mostly, but not limited to Medieval / Renaissance, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Steampunk Genres and some biker gear.
I am a Disabled Veteran of the US Navy. During my time in I was stationed in Sasebo, Japan and traveled the world from there. I think the only two continents I didn't get to was Africa and South America. I have studied 7 styles of Martial Arts (one being my own mixture) and was trained by the Navy S.E.A.L.s, that came on our ship, in Hand To Hand Combat, Knife Fighting and Century Removal. Basically how to be an assassin. I developed a ruptured appendix which lasted for a month and a half before my ships doctor finally sent me to a real hospital and stopped misdiagnosing me. I finished my time and got out with an Honorable Discharge worked odd jobs for a couple of years and then started College at Kent State for Jewelry/ Metals. There I met the man who taught me Blacksmithing and got me into Merchanting. I taught myself leather working and still to this day love to pick other artisans brains about techniques in all of my fields of, lets call it, expertise!
I am a blacksmith/bladesmith, jeweler and leather worker in the Medieval, Fantasy, Scifi and Steampunk Genres. I have been in business since 1999. As of late the economy and my personal life has stood in the way of my business. I am trying to change this, but I need help. Below is my plan for what I will do if I can raise enough money...
First I need to get some equipment and supplies in order to keep making things, design new pieces and lower the prices of my products. If I could buy metals and leather in bulk I would be able to get it cheaper, thus passing that savings on to my buyers.
Everywhere I go these days I see made in China or Pakistan or some other 3rd world country. It is far and few between to find things Made in America and even harder still to find things made here that are at reasonable prices. At every Faire or Convention there is a plethora of merchants selling import knives, swords, jewelry and leather work. Because these merchants are not actually making the products they sell they can sell it at 4-5 times what they paid for it and still be the cheapest at the event. I want to change that! I want to make quality products, handmade here in America that will at least come close to the prices of the imports. The only way I can do this is to get better tools and buy bulk supplies.
I also want to show the world what I can do. To this point I have yet to push the limits of my abilities and make my own Masterpieces. I have plans for things I can make in every element that I work in that will not only push my own boundaries but also teach me something new in the process. As of yet I have not had the funding to bring these things to life, so to speak.
Lastly, I need to get a vehicle that can haul all of my merchandise to events. I have a Ford E-350 dieselvan sitting in my driveway but it needs a lot of work before it is able to be road worthy. I am not a mechanic but if I can get the capitol to fix it up I can figure it out.
Your donations will be used to get my business back on track and to make me a royal thorn in the side for import dealers. You do not need to donate a whole bunch, if I can get $2 - $5 from all of those who are willing to help I can get the things I need to give this small American business a fighting chance in this import saturated society.
If you are willing to help in this endeavor please go to http://valhallasanvil.com/or pay pal

So I am back from Pennsic War. The only things I was able to sell were leather scraps... I was put in a new spot where nobody could find me until I piled my scraps out front really cheep. So pretty much I need to sell everything I own to get caught up with bills and get a vehicle and enclosed trailer that can get me back and forth to events. Preferably one that I don't need to dump money into to fix up.
But... I did learn some new techniques and although I do not have the ability to weld I can now braze in my forge. I also designed new collapsible tent stake pullers. One pattern is three sectional and folds down to about 8-9" and the other is telescopic and the two pieces closed measure around 12-14". I was only able to make 3 during war due to my business partner having to stay home and watch my dog, but even at $70 each the people that wanted them didn't flinch at the price!
I also carved my own form for doming Viking turtle brooches out of a piece of oak block I had laying around. So now I can make fully domed turtle brooches!!!
I will get pictures up of my works as I can. I was not able to take pics of my new stake pullers because they sold as fast as I could make them. So as soon as I can afford more propane for my forge I will make another and get pics up of it!
http://travelingwithintheworld.ning.com/group/valhallasanvil/forum/... So I would like to make leather hats for events this year, but I need some hat orders so I can afford the leather and supplies. Any interest? Let me know what kind of hat you are looking for! I can do tooling, custom made conchos and/or hatpins!
The hat shown here is a cavalier style or can be a tricorn if I flip the brim. They are made of 3/4 oz leather which is a little thicker then most hats. They start at $135.00 for plain+ shipping.http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/valhallasanvil/3140512...

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.
Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.
As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.
We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.
Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.
Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.
Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"
A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?
After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...
Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
