Under the hedge there are many things...

The hedge witch is a witch who works instinctively with what she finds around herself at a given moment- literally that which is in the hedge.

It is an ideal for those who do not react well to the prospect of formal and structured learning and who are more comfortable following their own path rather than joining a formal grouping

Being a hedgy is not a short-cut to knowledge or a cop out...it is simply a different perspective on things...

It is instinctive and flowing work and is like as not an echo of early pre-writing magic practice.

From the common oil to incense to redemies for things they would use what thye had and found to do what was needed. Many came for simple things and others came for ................

Hedge Witchcraft

Hedge Witchcraft, also called "hedge riding" or "hedgecraft," is the shamanic art of crossing the "hedge" or boundary between this world and the Otherworld. It is used as another name for the Traditional Witch. The Hedgewitch is usually a solitary practitioner, but may be attended by assistants. Their main function is as mediator between the spirits and people. They may also work as a herbal healer and midwife. Some practitioners claim it to be the continuing practices of the cunning folk and wise-women, while others say that it draws from such sources but is a modern tradition.

Author Rae Beth popularised a more Wiccan version of Hedgecraft on her 1992 book Hedge Witch - a guide to Solitary Witchcraft, Hedge Witches worship the Triple Goddess and the Horned God. They celebrate the eight sabbats of the Wheel of the Year. This version of Hedgecraft was criticised as having many similarities with Wicca. Certainly, many books published about Hedgewitchery are based upon Wicca, and actual practitioners claim that hedgewitches can come from any religious or spiritual background, and that simply most modern hedgewitches choose to base their practice around Wicca. Some main differences between hedgecraft and Wicca is a significant loss of the formality of Wiccan ritual, the lack of initiation into a Wiccan Coven, and the solitary nature of hedgecraft, with some following a Cochrane based tradition.

Another style as well: Hearth Witchcraft

Often also called "Kitchen Witchery" or "Cottage Witchery," Hearth Witchcraft is a both domestic and nature based, popularised by Anna Franklin in her 2004 book "Hearth Witch" (Lear Books). The household hearth is a focal point for practising magic within Hearth Witchcraft.

A Victorian Spell to Deal with Grief

General Uses: Acceptance of loss, easing distress.

Timing: Waning moons. Bright sunlight. During astrological water signs. Months of February, August, or November.

In the Victorian era people carried jet when grieving for a loved one.

They believed this black stone soaked up sadness and restored emotional balance.

This type of amulet is still useful, especially if blessed with a prayer, incantation, or supplication to your personal God/dess.

The amulet should be carried until grief has lifted.

Keep the stone with other mementoes for those times when sadness returns, such as the anniversary of a death.

A Witch's Kitchen Blessing

Blessed be this kitchen of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth.

Be warmed by the sacred light of the Goddess and the Horned One.

May all that is created here by means both magickal and mundane

bring nourishment, healing and sustenance causing harm to none.

With love and peace, with joy and magic, be now and always filled.

So Mote It Be..

Basil Security Spell

Basil is not just for cooking! Use it today for protection everywhere you may venture. Pour some basil into a glass or stoneware bowl.

Holding your hands open over the bowl, visualize the protective energies of the plant surrounding you as you chant:

Spirit of this plant I pray,
Keep me safe throughout this day.
Bless me with security.
Protected, I feel safe and free.

Sprinkle a small amount of basil in each room of your house, visualizing the energy changing as the protective properties of the plant spread.

Place a bit of basil in your purse or pocket for protection all day.

Leaving some basil in your car will protect it both on the road and in the parking lot.

Mirror Protection Spell

When feeling psychically threatened visualize a bright, shiny mirror in front of your solar plexus. Concentrate on it deflecting any hostility.

"Mirror shining that I hold,
Keep fear from me, make me bold,
Mirror shining keep me safe,
For with the Old Ones I keep faith!"

A Charm for Successful Negotiations

General Uses: Diplomatic exchanges, mediation, arbitration, intercession, and reconciliation.

Timing: During a waning moon (to decrease negative feelings). In bright sunlight. The months of February, April, August, and December. Moon in Libra, Gemini, or Aries.

When trying to negotiate for yourself or someone else, wait until the moon reaches its waning phase, write the name of the perceived antagonist on a piece of paper, then put the paper on a plate.

On top of the name, put two pieces of ice.

Leave this in sunlight until the ice melts.

That evening, take the water outside and pour it to the Earth, saying:

"As water flows out to the sea, so I release all enmity. As freely as this water is poured, so I extend peace and accord."

Keep a strong image of the other person in mind while you work. Take the paper to your negotiations as a charm for success.

1. If you place a quartz crystal near your stove while cooking, your food will taste better.

2. Growing a pot of basil herb in the kitchen will provde protection for the area and help drive out negativity.

3. If you chill your candles thoroughly in the fridge, they will retain their shape and burn longer.

4. Keep a lunar calendar in the kitchen so you can readily see the phases of the moon.

5. A full moon increases extrasensory perception and is an ideal time to prepare and use potions to increase psychic abilities.

6. Love philtres and aphrodisiacs are best prepared during the waxing moon.

7. The best time to plant an herb or vegetable garden is when the moon is in Cancer, Scorpio, Libra, or Pisces.

8. Homemade magickal incenses, sachets, and potpourri become more fragrant if aged several months before used.

9. Homemade incense should be stored in tightly capped or corked jars.

10. When cooking, always stir ingredients in a clockwise direction to remove negative influences.

11. An aloe vera plant should be kept in the kitchen as this is a wonderful instant cure for burns.

12. Herbal preparations should always be boiled in copper, earthenware, or Pyrex to avoid contamination of the medicines.

13. Always keep peaceful `intents and thoughts while cooking or preparing potions in the kitchen.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
