Use you mouse and play with the kitty for a bit as you think upon the pages of the books of old that have been lost with so much within them.
Here a placement of some knowledge is being kept. Along with how to make your own book, paper and inks for the special of things as well. Enjoy and add as you can to them.

Book of Shadows is a fairly new term, allegedly stemming from the witch persecutions, though most likely coming from the work of Gardner in the 1950's. Before then, a book of magical workings was called a Grimiore. It is hard to say who wrote the very first one, or even when. So many books have been lost to history... it breaks my heart to think about it. The Egyptians probably have the best collection of Pre-Christian era magic.

"The 6th and 7th Books of Moses" (not commonly acknowledged as existing by the Christian Church, though "The Five Books of Moses" are quite common) have a lot of information on spells and rituals for controlling Demons and Angels. "The Keys of Solomon the King" have similar information, but also have information on controlling the Planetary Spirits. Both have many symbols and seals needed to do the rites, and to have continued power after the rite is over.

These works are considered to be works of "Black Magic" or "Demonology", even though they were written by prominent figures in Christian History. The Christians, of course, claim these works to be fraudulent and created by the "Enemies of the Church" (most likely the Freemasons, and the Masons have been rumored to have such "Books of Power" [I have copies, but I'd LOVE to get my hands on an original translation!])

Another set of works were written by Henry Cornelius Agrippa. The easiest way to find the complete works, is to buy the book "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" as edited by Donald Tyson for Llewellyn as a part of their "Sourcebook Series"

A grimoire (pronounced /ɡrɪmˈwɑr/) is a textbook of magic. Such books typically include instructions on how to create magical objects like talismans and amulets, how to perform magical spells, charms and divination and also how to summon or invoke supernatural entities such as angels, spirits, and demons. In many cases the books themselves are also believed to be imbued with magical powers, though in many cultures other sacred texts that are not grimoires, such as the Bible and Qur'an, have also been believed to intrinsically have magical properties; in this manner whilst all books on magic could be thought of as grimoires, not all magical books could.

Whilst the term grimoire is originally European, and many Europeans throughout history, particularly ceremonial magicians and cunning folk, have made use of grimoires, the historian Owen Davies noted that similar such books can be found all across the world, ranging from Jamaica to Sumatra, and he also noted that the first such grimoires could be found not in Europe but in the Ancient Near East.

It is most commonly believed that the term grimoire originated from the Old French word grammaire, which had initially been used to refer to all books written in Latin. By the 18th century, the term had gained its now common usage in France, and had begun to be used to refer purely to books of magic, which Owen Davies presumed was because "many of them continued to circulate in Latin manuscripts." However, the term grimoire also later developed into a figure of speech indicating something that was hard or even impossible to understand amongst the French. It was only in the 19th century, with the increasing interest in occultism amongst the British following the publication of Francis Barrett's The Magus (1801), that the term entered the English language in reference to books of magic

Thread Bottle Spell

Find a bottle and stuff it with small pieces of thread of many colors (except black). This project will probably take you many weeks, since only small pieces of thread (one to three inches in length) should be used, and each must be introduced into the bottle separately.

As you add each piece of thread, say something like the following:

Tangle the bane up!
Defend against foes, bits of thread,
But to family and friends bring only good.
Tangle the bane up!

When the bottle is full, cap it and place it in a window, in the attic or in a cupboard. If possible, touch the bottle and repeat your chant at least once a week to reinforce the magick. This spell will help defend your home and family from the negative energy that uninvited visitors and negative thoughts can introduce. It's less effective against magickal attack, but magickal attacks are rare in the lives of the average family.

A Spell to Grant Perspective

General Uses: Beliefs, convictions, ideas, opinions, concepts, and perspectives.

Timing: February, August, November, and December. Moon in Scorpio, Libra, or Cancer. Monday.

Take yourself to a high place like a tree branch or safe rooftop to meditate.

Focus your eyes on the horizon.

As you do, bring the image of the farthest spot you can see into closer scrutiny without losing sight of the surroundings.

Quietly repeat an incantation like:

"Grant perspective, my mind is free, bring clear concepts, help me see."

The more you practice this exercise, the more it broadens both your horizons and your vision.

Obatala Mercy Spell

Ask for Obatala's mercy on tax day.

Obatala is the Yoruban god of purity, goodness, and mercy.

Before mailing your tax return, put a little coriander oil on the envelope.

You may also anoint your wallet, checkbook, and so on.

Take an Epsom salt or milk bath to feel pure, and wear at least one item of white clothing today.

Buy an Obatala candle at a botanica, or if unavailable, light a white seven-day candle, anointing it with the oil as well.

Ask Obatala to keep you from being one of those unlucky taxpayers who is chosen at random for a tax audit.

Offer him a glass of pure spring water, a white rose, and some hard candy. Light the candle every day until it burns down.

Banishing Nightmares Spell

Take a naturally holed stone and place over the bedroom door/window or even the bed itself.

Such 'hag' stones have been used for centuries to ward of the night hag that would ride horses at night and cause troubled sleep 'night mares'.

As you hang the stone chant:

"Let waves of dreams bless
Let dreams not you stress,
Let the wings of night enfold
Let peaceful sleep you hold."

A Victorian Folk Spell for Safe Travel

General Uses: Adventure. Voyages. Any time you are going out of the home (by foot, by car, or whatever).

Timing: January. Waxing moons. Moon in Gemini, Virgo, or Sagittarius. Weekends.

Place mint in a wallet, purse, or briefcase. This was believed to encourage prosperity, as well. To accent this effort, use a fresh mint leaf wrapped neatly around a small moonstone or other favorite good luck charm.

Lord and Lady,

Bless this book of witch's art,
and all I write herein;
keep it's magick close to my heart,
and far from the eyes of evil men.

May your light fill these pages,
with the blessings of your love;
with the wisdom of the ages,
and all the power thereof.

Book of Shadows be so much more,
than a teacher, guide, muse, or friend;
be a map that I may explore,
worlds without and worlds within.

And may any who would steal my craft,
for power, fame, or ire;
face the fury of your wrath,
and burn in hellish-fire!

So Mote It Be

Serpent Healing Spell

One of the symbols of the Goddess Bridget was the serpent, which represented healing and transformation.

As water arises from beneath the ground, the serpent emerged from the underworld, bringing the healing power of the spirit realm and signalling the approach of spring.

In Scotland and Ireland, a divination ceremony called the Rite of the Serpent was performed in early February.

Use this spell to encourage the arrival of spring and increase life energies and blessings in your own life.

Light a green candle and set it on a white cloth.

Meditate on the image of the serpent.

Offer it honor and devotion, and ask for a sign of what is to come, saying:

The Serpent shall come from the hole.
The Queen shall come from the mound.
I will not harm the serpent,
Nor will she harm me.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries had its humble beginnings as an idea of a few artisans and craftsmen who enjoy performing with live steel fighting. As well as a patchwork quilt tent canvas. Most had prior military experience hence the name.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries.

Vendertainers that brought many things to a show and are know for helping out where ever they can.

As well as being a place where the older hand made items could be found made by them and enjoyed by all.

We expanded over the years to become well known at what we do. Now we represent over 100 artisans and craftsman that are well known in their venues and some just starting out. Some of their works have been premiered in TV, stage and movies on a regular basis.

Specializing in Medieval, Goth , Stage Film, BDFSM and Practitioner.

Patchwork Merchant Mercenaries a Dept of, Ask For IT was started by artists and former military veterans, and sword fighters, representing over 100 artisans, one who made his living traveling from fair to festival vending medieval wares. The majority of his customers are re-enactors, SCAdians and the like, looking to build their kit with period clothing, feast gear, adornments, etc.

Likewise, it is typical for these history-lovers to peruse the tent (aka mobile store front) and, upon finding something that pleases the eye, ask "Is this period?"

A deceitful query!! This is not a yes or no question. One must have a damn good understanding of European history (at least) from the fall of Rome to the mid-1600's to properly answer. Taking into account, also, the culture in which the querent is dressed is vitally important. You see, though it may be well within medieval period, it would be strange to see a Viking wearing a Caftan...or is it?

After a festival's time of answering weighty questions such as these, I'd sleep like a log! Only a mad man could possibly remember the place and time for each piece of kitchen ware, weaponry, cloth, and chain within a span of 1,000 years!! Surely there must be an easier way, a place where he could post all this knowledge...

Traveling Within The World is meant to be such a place. A place for all of these artists to keep in touch and directly interact with their fellow geeks and re-enactment hobbyists, their clientele.
